Yeah it's another one of these threads :D

So I've been on GEMS comprehensive plan - and it's been fine but I'm not a government employee. I was a dependent on my mum's while I was studying. When I started working, I was on the company's medical scheme via Medihelp and their benefits have been shiat for what I need it for.

Now the company has decided that they will rather contribute a certain amount towards a medical aid of my choosing. So which one should I go for? Looking for the following:
- easy to deal with, don't need authorisation for every little thing
- they don't put up a fuss when it comes time to pay
- don't want to have to go through their network of doctors and pharmacies
- I make use of things like physiotherapy (for my back) and psychologists (not because I'm psycho or emo, but for self-improvement), so there should be a good limit on these
- and of course price

Thanks for your help!

Hmmm, reading your requirements and looking at Discovery's 2012 benefits, don't even bother with them.

(Discovery holdings made R2,7B last year in profit after tax.............:wtf: )

I've heard good things about Profmed: http://www.profmed.co.za/

There are 5 options. ProSecure is about R1790 a month. Limit (out of hospital) is about R8000 for the year.
Yeah I'd def look at the restricted ones first.

Be sure to watch out for exclusion periods though if you're switching. Though the restricted ones seem less tedious about this.

Don't forget dental.

They are pretty good w/ benefits...but stupidly expensive on the better plans. :o
