SAOL just cancelled there uncapped unshapped account (R499) which was brilliant - was getting 38-40kB/s constantly 24/7. Before that I have the Axxess express + which was (R999). Now I am looking at Mweb and finding it quite difficult to choose a mweb package that matches SAOL's. You have the following packages:

Uncapped Shaped packages
384 - R349 per month all inclusive
512 - R599 per month all inclusive
4096 - R899 per month all inclusive

Business (Uncapped and unshapped) packages
384 - R629 per month all inclusive
512 - R999 per month all inclusive
4096 - R2359 per month all inclusive

The 384 (R629) business package is more expensive than the 512 (R599) standard package. Is the 384 business really better than the 512 standard?

Also the business 512 (R999) is more expensive than the 4096 (R899) standard package. Which one to chose there, the business 512 or the standard 4092? Which is better there?

Do you think those business packages are worth it over the standard packages? Mainly which of those packages is the most balance and value for money over the long run? Mainly I use the Rand per gig formula, but this is just difficult for me to decide.

Will be using the uncapped mainly with torrents 24/7.

Jeepers, this is really driving me nuts. Can't decide.

I am interested in what you guys think.

Thanks

There does seem to be a 'gap' in the choices IMO.

This is partly due to the Telkom price component of the ADSL lines:
R326pm for a 'bare' 512K ADSL line is a blatant ripoff.
R413pm for a 'bare' 4096K ADSL line is better value, but still rather expensive.

Until those prices come down, the choices will remain rather limited unfortunately...

Here look at following choices and try to decide which package will you go with, I find it difficult.

384 [unshaped - R629 (+/-90gigs per month)] vs 512 [shaped - R599 (? gigs per month)]
512 [unshaped - R999 (+/-130gigs per month)] vs 4096 [shaped - R899 (? gigs per month)]

The question is unshaped lower speed(more expensive) vs shaped higher speed(more cheaper) ie.
512(R999) vs 4096(R899) - save R100 on the 4096 package and you might get more than 130gigs per month
or
384(R629) vs 512(R599) - save R30 on the 512 package and you might get more than 90gigs per month

See what i am getting at?

Which is better in your opinion?

I would be interested in which will you guys choose out of those packages.

You will need a Business uncapped, unshaped package to compare with your old SAOL account. Uncapped, shaped from any ISP just isn't in the same league.

Great to see this shaping is having the desired effect on the heavy downloaders. This is exactly the way a market should work. If you want full speed 24/7 downloads you must pay for the privilege and not expect to be subsidised by others.

Just an observation. I know it won't be a popular one but that is all it is. Good luck with your search.

What does the extra 40Gb mean in your life other than screwing a bit more bandwith out of MWeb

I use internet since the dial-up days, so 40 gigs means a lot to me. Funny thing is Mweb was my first dial-up ISP. Jeepers thats scary... Never knew I will land up with them again. lol

In that case go for whatever will give you the maximum potential download at the cheapest price if all you want is "gimme, gimme" - but don't expect good performance during business hours or at any time, you're at the mercy of their terms & conditions :D

I'm in the same boat as Jonaling so I will also have to move to Mweb. Unfortunately it seems the business packages are the only ones that can compete with the old SAOL package as far as unshaped and unlimited goes. Not my first choice but there you go. And of course the contract doesn't sound like much fun either, but what can you do?

I think I gonna choose the 384(R629) unshaped product. That is more in line with SAOL product. But the problem is, the 512(R599) might be the better product then the unshaped 384. It's cheaper and it's faster but it is shaped.

Are you sure? I thought that if you don't sign for the router, the contract for 12 months falls away. Can someone clarify this?

If that is true, then the 512(R599) or the 4092(R899) is the packages to get. I probably go for 4092(R899) package.
