City of gold...
Now that I've sold my acer Aspire One, I have some cash, for a new netbook. I've been looking at the NC10 and the mini 110c from digital addiction, any ideas as to which of the two is better, both have the same specs and are selling for the same price, I need help deciding, also any other recommendations you guys can make are welcome

I am also looking to buy a netbook. The HP looks to be a great option.

So far the Dell and Lenovo options seems to be reasonable too.

Just ensure you get a 6 cell battery.

I'm kinda leaning towards the NC10, just had a look at the HP, in sandton's HP store, its not that nice, build quality is good, but the 6 cell battery sticks out quite alot at the back. Need to see the NC10 tho, from the pics online it looks far better. The gigabyte booktop isn't bad either, it seems more functional!!

true..... I sometimes get the feeling to just put in an extra R2k and buy a 13"+ notebook...
edit: the site is brilliant, bookmarked... thanks

I picked up a demo Asus 1000HE (from the USA) for R3000, all inclusive, new condition.

This is a great netbook with a long battery life, and the 6-cell battery does not protrude.

Also easy to upgrade to 2GB RAM.

I thought I'd restart this thread instead of making yet another netbook one.
So here it goes....

I intend getting a netbook for word processing, internet browsing and for the total portability aspect of it.

My problem lies in the choices I have and I need you guy's recommendations.

Acer Aspire One
, 8GB SSD, 1.6GHz Atom, 3 Cell battery.
Selling point for me: The price.
R1,999

Samsung NC10
, 160GB HDD, 1.6GHz N270 Atom, 6 cell battery.
Selling point for me: Keyboard.
R3,692 @ Landmark

Mecer J10/UW1, 160GB HDD, 1.6GHz N270 Atom, 3 cell battery.
Selling point: The price, but it is used.
R,2500 on Gumtree

Lenovo S10e, 160GB HDD, 1.6GHz N270 Atom, 6 cell battery.
Selling point: The price, but that fan is incredibly irritating. I have used this one before.
R3,200 second hand from my friend.

I'm edging towards the Sammy, but which one would you choose?

The Acer, on both price and build quality, which has been highly rated by many reviewers.

Mine has been rock-solid for months now, absolutely no problems or regrets -- though if you do want to upgrade the memory it's a bit of a b***er. Also bear in mind that this astonishing bargain-bin price gets you Linux, not Windows. The conversion is not difficult if you follow the online instructions freely available on, for example, http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/

I've hear many things about the SSD being too slow. Is the memory non-upgradeable? I don't mind sticking with Linpus at all, was actually thinking of loading UNR or Crunchbang on it afterwards. Hows the battery life?

Yeah the SSD is not the fastest, but then don't forget the price of this unit! And there are several tricks to make it go faster, all detailed on the user forum I mentioned. Battery life is between 2 and 3 hours. And yes, the RAM is upgradeable; I added a full GB myself at a cost of R200 (I seem to recall) from IC. But don't ask them to put it in -- it's a very fiddly (and therefore expensive) job which you can do yourself if you are fairly confident with online instructions and a small screwdriver, and you are comfortable with the risk of invalidating the warranty.
