Bit of a lame response wouldnt you say?
The contender isnt in production anymore from what I can see but is main difference is the flat pad for back exercises.
In my experience most of those home bench machines suck a bit because they are always flimsy at best.
I personally prefer a plain flat bench and dumbell press because you dont need to spotted and besides, real men dumbell press.
Before I went to a commercial gym, I had a Trojan Armour 500. It was pretty decent. When put together and bolted tight, it was pretty sturdy and secure. Think it was a couple of Gs at Makro. The way the adjustable height pegs worked meant that you could decline, incline at 3 different angles and completely upright for shoulder work. Also came with the obligatory leg ext/preacher bench attachment. The best thing about it was that it is one of the few mid-range combo benches which set up in such a way to allow you to do squats (something that performa 300 doesnt allow). I regularly put 100+ kgs of weights on the holders and there was never an issue. Used mine 4 times a week for almost 2 years and it never gave problems.
Dont know if they're made any more but you will be able to get a 2nd hand one for under a grand I'm sure.
