btw, a friend recently played Quake4 on Linux, had 35 FPS, on windows it was between 1 -3 FPS. Though Linux can't play most other games available. I know.

lol. nah stick to XP pro (32bit) unless u got like 1gig ram (DDR2 ram) and a dual core AMD or intel core duo. Also having a lekker 3dcard built in. Vista chows yur memory alive!
I'd have to say XP at the moment, but it's a terrible time to buy a gaming notebook. There will be Dx10/Vista exclusive games out in a year or two, which you may not be able to play or upgrade to.
Buy a Mac. Use bootcamp to install Microsoft OS of your choice. Run many games for Mac OS using OpenGL under Mac OSX, the best commercial PC OS.
You get the best of BOTH worlds.
