What i do:
Steam Games (dota 2, arma, etc roughly 10 games in library) + updates
Gaming in General (bf3 & 4) others
Teamspeak
Browsing
Occasionally work from home (emails, skype, browsing, ftp)
Torrents (Not a must but i do only because im on Openweb uncapped and schedule it after 12 but generally i do it at work.) But if i had capped would download the odd 1 or 2 episodes per week

What gf does:
Facebook
Browsing
Occasionally work from home (browsing and skype)

Not sure on my daily/monthy usage as i have only had internet again for 6 days.
I would like to be able to not be shaped stupidly.

Uncapped or Capped, what package do you think would suit me if you can possibly guess.
Would prefer IS based company and nothing over R399 even R399 is a bit steep for me but basically cheapest possible is always a plus

You could try a Telkom soft cap account with the DoGaming add-on.

DoGaming add-on works well with Steam, so none of your Steam bandwidth gets taken off your cap.

Also, these accounts are uncapped between midnight and 7am so you could schedule all the torrents you want between these times.

Only thing I noticed is that latency is not as good as IS accounts.

50GB soft cap: R 269
DoGaming add-on: R49

R269 seems quite extensive for 50GB softcap though :O

also the dogaming add on - they not very clear - like as if they are saying that its valid for 1 month only, confused.

Telkom Capped accounts are really good! They are a little more expensive than some other ISP's, but you get what you pay for. You could also try IS capped from someone like Web Africa. They are shaped accounts, and so you may experience slower download speeds during the day time on things like torrents, but otherwise a great account. If you wanted uncapped on IS, I would recommend Web Africa's business uncapped. I think you would probably get frustrated with the shaping on their home uncapped product.

Price is not that bad if you consider it's uncapped after midnight, this is the reason I went with it over the IS accounts (i.e. WebAfrica) as they have a cap on the midnight data.

Add-on is valid for 30 days after purchase, then you have pay again if you want it for another 30 days. It's basically just a monthly service.

Softcap just means that when you get capped you don't lose connectivity, your speed is just throttled down so you can still browse, get email, etc.

throttled badly one would assume

and the 50GB is completely fullspeed correct?
and if 50GB softcap is terrible, cancellation? how would that go?

And for cancellations you can phone 10210 or http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/476124-Canceling-Telkom-line-and-ADSL-services?p=9167982&viewfull=1#post9167982 :). With regards to speed, I'm not sure, but when ever I've used a Telkom capped account anywhere I've had full speeds.

Decide what speed you need, and how much you typically download and then find an account that can handle it. Uncapped is very restricted, especially Telkom where P2P is a pain during the day. Guys are reporting trouble with DoGaming taking data off when they shouldn't. You also have to use Telkom game servers AFAIK.

I see there is a R189.00 Axxess capped account on 2Meg which gives 100Gigs p.m completely unshaped 24/7. Not sure how long they will offer this since it's marked as a special. They use MTN Business bandwidth. Compare this to more expensive Telkom 'uncapped' deal which doesn't like P2P until around 1AM, games are bad, streaming is bad, YouTube is bad, and they get upset if you go over an unpublished data cap reportedly from 100 - 150 Gig when severe throttling kicks in until month-end.

You could try Afrihost capped 4mb 50gb+50gb. Currently quite happy with them, but not the uncapped.

R10 more than Axxess, but a similar setup.

Don't forget that the choice of speed is separate with capped. The faster your line, the more you pay for rental, and the faster the data gets chomped :D
