Which PC more worth my while?

A good place to shop is prophecy.co.za, free shipping (over R1000) and very reliable, even shipping to Cape Town.

but sticking to CPT, you can try take2.co.za, cafe java, buycomputers.co.za, pryorcomp.co.za and er, well I don't think many of the places in Cape Town are very good really. :p

Not worth R2800 more for just the 8800GTS and E6750. But the 8800GTS is definitely worth it over the 8600GTS, definitely look into a different setup than just those two.

yeah definitely pryorcomp. i bought my new system there. excellent pricing definitely the best i've seen and also a large range of goods. go for the 8800gts. it's a powerful card and i'm glad i went for that one. in terms of the cores...for future usage, the quad's will benefit you. so perhaps a mix and match of the two systems is what you need.

And you can still get everything listed here still for cheaper.Definately.

this is my setup:

Asus P5K motherboard; Intel Core 2 Duo E6850; Aerocool ExtremeEngine 3T box; 2 GB Patriot RAM(DDR 2 800) with heatsink; Nvidia 8800GTS; 250GB SATA 2 HDD; Samsung 20 x DVD-Writer; Samsung 18 x Lightscribe DVD-Writer; Coolermaster 550W power supply; 19" LG L194WT widescreen LCD; Creative 2.1 sound system. You can even improve on this but it depends on your budget. This is basically the type of system you would want to get, in terms of RAM, Processor and Graphics Card. The Asus motherboard is designed for overclocking - you have total control of every factor to optimise overclocking if that's what you're interested in. The Asus motherboard has many excellent features - check it out here -> http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=534&l4=0&model=1637&modelmenu=1

The OCZ Ram listed above is expensive. I paid R1000 for my 2GB Patriot RAM DDR2 800 with heatsink.

The Quad, but leave the gfx card...
If you're patient (lets say three weeks) you can get an 8800GT which is by far faster than either of those cards, runs cooler and is single slot. ;)
Should be cheaper too at about R2,900 or R3,000

But if you have to buy now take the first system but add the difference for the 8800GTS :)

Yes but Glordit the 8800GT is by far faster than the 8800GTS 640MB let alone the 320MB.

Hopefully glordit it will be a bit less. I mean recommended retail is 199-250$ overseas so thats R1750 if your convert it straight! But knowing how SA loves milking it's favourite cow it might be around R2500. Another 10 days or so and well know for sure.

Hey shockG. Its may look that way but i would like to wait for some proper benchies from better reviewers to be sure.

I can put money on it :)
It is faster, smarter as well.. The 65nm die shrink alone makes it clock for clock faster even if the configurations (96sp etc..) were the same. The SPs in the 8800GT are like those of the 85/8600 series meaning that they inherit an added Tex Add unit per sampler so latencies are reduced dramatically and texturing abilities are increased as well to the same proportion. That is not bandwidth Dependant as those latencies were in the clusters themselves. There may be some more things reworked that we can't know about now, but the 8800GT is a winner most certainly. Besides, its single slot :)

Hehehe shock I know your very knowledgable with this kind of thing so i'll take your word for it :D

I'm liking "the enforcer" on pryorcomp. How does the AMD 5600+ 64bit compare to the E6750?

[TA for the websites]

Badly :p, but it's not a terrible CPU.

Phone Peter, the owner, the prices might be outdated on a whole PC setup and you could change some parts.

So if, for example, I already have speakers and don't need new ones, I could knock a couple of hundred rand off the package price?

I'm sure you could, he's a reasonable man. :p Really should be fine, you might even want to change a few of those parts.
