So I have decent connectivity at home now that doesn't touch telkom, and want to cut that cord completely...

Which consumer voip service should I look at? Want to be able to port the telkom number to it...

Vox has a bolt-on "Uncapped" Voice package @ R249/month over FTTH.
Unlimited calls to any SA destination including cell numbers.

Only catch is you have to use them for Data as well

Care to explain how you know your service now does not touch Telkom? You are absolutely sure that your new provider "never" makes use of any capacity that may be provided by Telkom?

I believe he is referring to the fact that he does not have to deal with Telkom ADSL, Nor Telkom Support, Nor copper again.

Let's not blow things out of context here.

No problem, Finally clear of a copper based connection, and I trust the move is everything you expect it to be .....

But be aware, in SA it is almost impossible to ever be completely "Telkom Free" .......

100/100mbps symmetrical uncapped unshaped, I'm sure he's happy, I would be! :)

Having dealt with both for a very long time, it takes plenty of work and research to be able to categorically state that any service is on totally diverse routes with dependence on even these 2 operators ......

But yes in theory it is possible in a few limited places in the country to get services from BBI that are not dependent on Telkom ....

So CISP said they'd do me a SIP account without buying data from them. Signed up, active, just waiting for my phone :D
