I have been going through all the posts hoping to come to some conclusion regarding the choice of ISP. I only have OpenServe in my area. I am looking for a more affordable package for either (1) 40/20Mbps (prefered) or a 50/25Mbps package. Can I please get some recommendations? There seems to be no reference to Telkom as an ISP, how good or how bad are they?

Using Telkom as an ISP is like relying on Eskom for power :|

Afrihost or Cool Ideas, they both have a presence on the forum and their support on here is great

When I used them I never really had any issues, I could of been super super lucky though

Yea its when the problem happens.

My old boss had them as an ISP and he had 0 issues meanwhile someone else i know had endless problems. My sister to cancel her service with them was a nightmare as well, where i had no issues cancelling our office line and internet years ago so its very inconsistent.

I always had people complaining about them, but never had issues, unfortunate that they inconsistent

Was this on Openserve as well? Most times the issue lies with the FNO and Frogfoot is the worst

I spend about R5.5k p/m with Afrihost. Few fibre lines and LTE packages.
Their support on here has always been superb. Happy with their products also.

Nah had a friend who had some odd routing/peering problems with them and escalating that was a nightmare. He eventually just cancelled and went elsewhere

Ah ok… there are always some outliers in how things route and people’s needs. Hopefully he was able to get sorted on the new provider

Same.

AAH a few people feel "special" because a rep talk to 0.00001% of customers on an internet forum. Go read those threads, endless problems and complaining.
These ISP's are all the same, they don't care.
I will however stay clear of WebAfrica/Mweb and Telkom.
I am with RSAWEB on Openserve for years and very happy. Always had quick support within minutes when I had a problem.

I personally wouldn't go with a ISP that can't set an SVG correctly

We're canaries in the coalmine, when we complain something is usually up,especially with numbers and geographic spread

Not particularly, the loudest ones are complainers but it's surprisingly quiet

Dunno if you want somebody to kiss your booboo and make it feel better, but as far as service goes - there's measurable differences

I've yet to see Afrihost et al Live-drain routes and reroute on their network because of "internet forum users" issues. Meanwhile i've had the CEO of Websquad personally check on a big issue in our Area, and get the regional lead of Vumatel to phone me and apologize for a stuff-up their contractors did
