What Router would you guys recommend. I am a proficient IT user, but I have never set up a router before. I can basicly get any router available from Rectron,Pinnicle Micro,Esquire,Light-Edge or Axiz. Note that I already have a 5 port switch connecting my home network.

If you want a cheap and easy router to configure, go with D-Link!

Is anyone using the D-link atm. Is it compatable with the Mywireless modem?

Yes. Rhino has one... and I've also seen a number of them in use up in JHB.
(Main selling point, besides ease of use, is also their extended
warranty).

Works GREAT as long as you remember to set the MTU to 1450. And limited lifetime warranty.

End user!!!!

Get best signal in my lounge and it woul be probably be cheaper to get the router and ethernet cable than an antennae as the signal doesn't seem to bad , getting 12k download speeds ( in the lounge) and no connection in my study

Any other options???

Not a bad option at all. Will give you flexibility in the future too.
(A Long antenna cable is not viable anyway)

Basically any router that works with MyWireless will work with IBurst and vice versa. They both use PPPoE. The principles are identical. You just have to change the username and password as well as the MTU (1354 for IBurst and ?1480 for Sentech if I remember correctly... search the forum for confirmation...)

Cheers

If I can add to that question.
If I possibly move to ADSL later, I assume I would need to get another router? I don't see anything on DLink's site about ADSL on the DI604 model. A bonus would be a Wireless connection for my wife's office laptop.

Brolloks

The DI-604 has an RJ-45 WAN port. This means that you can use this simple router for your IBurst, Sentech, ADSL, VSAT, etc...
I tested it with an Iburst Modem and it worked, also tested it with a Sentech Modem and it worked, and lastly I use it on ADSL everyday, guesse what?
It works ;)
The only trick is the MTU that changes depending on the Internet Method.

If you later get ADSL, you WOULD need to buy an ADSL modem. Provided you get one with an ethernet port, in most cases (depending on capabilities of the devices used) you should be able to connect your ADSL modem to the router. The router's WiFi capabilities will then allow you to surf the internet via router and through ADSL modem. So a router will not be a waste of money for later on if you change to ADSL. Of course you do get ADSL WiFi routers but these then won't work directly with IBurst/MyWireless.

By the way, I can recommend the Netgear WGR614 routers. Work very well.

Just stay away from linksys... My SMC router is the most stable on my network...

I have one of the new R1500 modems and nowhere is there a jack to connect a ethernet cable to the thing. Does this mean that I will not be able to use a router with it? Thanks
