Which router to buy

Hey guys, I bought a Netgear DGN2200 today; however, the wifi range is abysmal. Now I'm thinking of taking it back.

What router would you suggest for around R1k?

I had a D-Link, which served me quite well.

Thanks in advance

It's for personal, home use

Absolutely hate Trendnet (too many bad experiences).

THIS!

I find their routers and such are "stable" but their range and performance is dismal, caused huge kuk with my wireless devices

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I bought a trendnet initially and it didn't even sync on my line; so, never going that route again.

When you say it does not have a modem; how much will it then cost to add a modem?

Thanks again everyone!

Edit: I upgraded the firmware on the router and it seems a bit better now. Should I perhaps just stick with this one; i.e., is Netgear a good router?

I'm running a DGN2200 which I'm very happy with - the wifi requirement will really be dependent on the house. I have a second DGN2200 set up which just acts as a wifi extender, connected to the primary router via an ethernet over power line connection.

My previous router is still functioning; it just doesn't want to sync my line for some reason. Would I be able to use it as an extender; and how difficult it it to set it up as one, if possible?

What version is it? I have the V4 and the wifi is bad in my situation because it in a odd place. But in a "normal" house it should be fine.

Also V4. The odd thing is, my reception is says "GOOD", but it is as though the quality of the signal deteriorates with every meter. For example, when it was just down the hall; I couldn't play Dota online or visit websites for that matter, and it is literally 5 meters away.

Yeah you would, just don't use wireless repeating, make a physical LAN connection between the routers via cable directly or a ethernet over power line adaptor. Not difficult to set up, just switch off dhcp on the secondary one and configure the wireless settings the same as the primary one.

Coolio, will try it. Thank you for the help!

I'm a fan of TP-Link, absolutely hate Trendnet (too many bad experiences).

Under R1000, check this beauty out: TP-LINK N900 WIRELESS DUAL BAND GIGABIT ROUTER. I'm considering pulling the trigger.

Agreed, spent almost R2K in total to wire up my place using Trendnet ethernet over powerline adapters only to have them fail one by one with the slightest of power dips.
"Stripped my moer" and pulled CAT6 through all my power ducts against all better judgement. Getting Gigabit now and using a TP-Link ADSL router that's working just great.

If you need an ADSL modem as well I suggest one of these: TP-Link W8980.

We have quite a large double storey house and the signal is acceptable, even at the furthest points. The WiFi range is probably not quite as good as the WDR4900 though.
