I need some help please!

I'm looking for an ADSL Wifi Router (modem + router combo) that has the ability to connect to a VPN server (create a VPN endpoint), so that traffic from all devices connected to the Wifi AP (or LAN) is routed through the VPN connection. Under R1000 would be best, but I can go as high as R2500.

Any ideas?

Hi, hope I give the right advice but any good router should be able to do VPN routing. My advice would be to go for a TP_link router. Extremely good value for money, you can save thousands on equivalent features and I have had no problems with the 3 different ones I have owned.
I advise getting the best you can afford (of coarse), if you technical these can mostly have 3rd party software loaded on them which often performs things such as VPN routing a bit better.

Check out the routers for uniterm direct. Click wireless-tplink-adsl and it will give you a list.
The Archer D7 is probably the best value for money (R1500 for a dual band wireless AC router) as the D9 becomes expensive (R2700 :/).

Good luck!

Hi Vaughan,

My networking knowledge is limited at best, but my understanding is that most routers allow "VPN Passthrough" (i.e. a PC on the network is able to create a VPN connection for its own use), but what I'm talking about is the router establishing the VPN connection, and then directing all traffic of all clients through this connection.

Correct me if I'm wrong?

Are you connecting to a company VPN? If yes, what device is on the other side?

I use a mikrtotik RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN together with a DLINK (DSL-2500U). The DLINK is setup in bridged mode with the Mikrotik doing the heavy lifting. The mikrotik will set you back about R1800 and about R300 (That's what I paid for mine). Not the easiest to set up if you are not familiar with networking but once its is up - it runs without hiccup.

No, it's a VPN anonymizing service like BlackVPN, ExpressVPN or PrivateInternetAccess. The VPN server supports OpenVPN, L2TP and PPTP.

I tried to go that route, but my stupid Telkom ADSL Modem doesn't support bridged mode.

Look for a router supporting DD-WRT in the classifieds and set it up as the VPN client endpoint. Then if you have an old ADSL modem lying around combine it with the DD-WRT router for an easy DYI solution.
