Hey guys :),

I'm looking at buying myself a new screen for my PC and Xbox. Currently I'm interested in buying either a Samsung 2333SW or a T260 (will try and buy it second hand).

The extra size of the T260 would be fantastic. Except my only problem with the T260 is its resolution (1980 x 1200) and as far as I know the Xbox only supports up to 1080P. So does the image get stretched or are there black bars and how does it look?

Is there a big difference between the two screens, should I just get the 2333SW or should I go for the T260? Other screen suggestions welcome.

Thanks :)

I got the 2333SW about 2 months back and I'm kicking myself for not having bought a wider screen sooner!
I'm loving it!

I think "value for money" wise, you cannot beat the 2333SW. its easily R300 cheaper than the nearest 23" screen and it works beautifully.
It's a simple monitor without all these new "magic colour" correction tools or "dynamic whatzit theatre bla bla"
It just plain WORKS!

If you go for the 26" screen, the resolution will "stretch itself". as long as you stay in the 16:9 configuration ratio, the picture will look fine... once you try 4:3 res' on a wide screen things start to look ***. the screen will not letter box your picture for a little over 100 lines... it'll stretch the image.

The only thing i can say that irritates me about the 2333SW is how the inputs are setup at the rear of the screen.
There is a tapered recess that leads into the DVI input. Which is fine if you're running a DVI cable.
I wanted to hook it up to my PS3 via a HDMI-DVI adapter and the arrangement becomes too long to fit into that tapered recess... I had to go out and buy a new HDMI-DVI CABLE... which cost me R300 (so there's the money I saved on the monitor)
If you're planning on using it for your XBox, you'll probably have the same issue... so you'll need to go get that cable too.

Otherwise...
Look at contrast ratios and response times...
Then decide which screen you'll prefer staring at for hours on end ;)

Have you considered the 2494HS? For today only, it's on special at kalahari.net for R2208.26!

I was looking through some other screens...2494HS is nice with HDMI and all but I'm really liking the look of that Samsung P2350 atm :)

It looks alright, but still no HDMI and still 23".

Thanks for the replies guys, I did take a look at the 2494HS and the few posts I read in the PC Hardware and Software forum said that the colour on the 2333SW is better . How much difference does the 0.6" make? I might consider getting it. Thanks :)

The color is better on the 2333SW?! Haha. Where does that come from? If anything, it's better on the 2494HS due to the helluva better contrast ratio. And the 0.6" will always make a difference, since it's bigger, no matter by how much. Plus, it has HDMI input which future-proofs it and, for those who care, there are built in speakers. It's also not glossy, so it doesn't attract finger prints.

Great, I'll take a look at the 2494HS. Thanks :)

Personally for Xbox 360 I could never recommend a PC based monitor over a proper HDTV even if it's 16:9. I have played X360 over my PC monitor for a full year and with the recent dashboard update I can use 1440x900 as my native resolution (16:10). I also tested my X360 on a proper 16:9 PC monitor @ 1920x1080 and it looked the SAME as on my 16:10 with proper aspect ratio provided by the NXE update. On my LG 32" HDTV the picture is so much more clearer and sharper to me over component AND VGA.

Problem with todays consoles is that they don't behave like a PC when it comes to resolutions, putting your X360 on 1920x1080 will NOT make your game look super sharp clear as you would expect from a PC game, infact it will be no different from 1280x720.

But in your case, it will do.

Yeah, but with normal PC monitors, VGA is the only option. With this 2494HS PC monitor, HDMI is an option so it will definitely make a difference, as it's digital.
