I'm looking for a side-by-side with an ice and water dispenser (Plumbed) which is pretty quiet when the compressor is running, as its in our general living space.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

When we asked this very question of various manufacturers only AEG could give an answer. Samsung asked why I wanted to know and then told me. Sorry it was long ago and i dont have the info anymore.

The hum of computers and fridges drives me crazy.

Yeah, me too. I managed to sort the computer out when i got my last one, found that using all 60mm fans and no 120mm fans sorted the hum out. My father-in-law got a defy and attached a extra support to one of the compressor tubes that took the noise level down alot.

My wife is a bit noise sensitive and basically "allergic" against stuff that makes any noise.
So we ended up with Apple iMacs and Mac Minis to replace PC's and the fridge is a Bosch and there the compressor is fully encapsulated. VERY VERY quiet and no vibrations either. And you can put it flush against the wall; any heat is ventilated out at the front.

So for anyone having this issue, after much pain, I decided to go with the scientific approach and got an LG with a linear compressor.

My word it's quiet, the linear compressor makes complete sense as opposed to a rotating one.

It's slightly audible when it first gets turned on because the fridge is working hard but once it's reached a point where it's just maintaining, you can't hear it. The Samsung is basically a jet engine compared to this thing.

What really irritates me, is after going to 5 different furniture retailers, no one
ever recommended an LG with linear compressor. When I eventually picked this and said it was for the linear compressor, the slew guy didn't even know what that meant.

If you want a quiet fridge, LG with a linear compressor. I clocked the Samsung at 50db when maintaining temp, the LG was 40db at full power when just turned on and compressor runs at about 36db when maintaining.

Probably why Bosch's are all sold out. They were all selling a 32k Siemens at 22k, because thats what Bosch had given them to sell. Apparently basically the same fridge.

Compressor didn't look encapsulated, actually looked identical to Samsung, thats why I didn't go with it.
