Which sim to use whilst in US

So I will be traveling in the USA for 2 weeks.

Thought I'd get a couple of prepaid sims for myself and wife.

Which is the most cost effective service provider that offers sims.

What to I need to buy a sim...RICA stuff?

Will it work in out phones ,..I have iPhone 5, 3GS and galaxy note.

I also would want to use data and use the phone as a hotspot for my iPad.

Never had to buy airtime. If you are calling a landline in SA its free but if you call a mobile in SA then you will need airtime. Its on T-Mobile so you can top up as you need.

@shiraz..Sim is valid after 30 days, longer if you top up or add on a bundle. There are some rules, just drop them an email, they are quick to reply.

Does this sim allow u to tether another device using the hotspot function on iPhone or android.

I just got this sim delivered.
Paid R783 for a $60 t-mobile card.

What a ripoff... I could have bought one in USA for under R600 at the current exchange rate.

But you don't have the hassle of RICAing the Sim card which you would if you bought in the states. Becomes a mission if you don't have a USA address. Trust me been through that hassle
Also you have your number here which you can give to anyway before you fly out. R100 odd is not that bad for having it courier to your doorstep.

Popped into a t-mobile store.
No documents required to get a sim.
Instant activation.

The other problem with this card is that it seems the number was recycled too quickly. A whole lot of spam messages and subscription service messages come through esp in Spanish.
Also get a lot of collect calls.
