Which software is pirated the most?

Now that I think back, since probably after highschool and while being a student I gradually pirated less and less. It wasn't really a decision I made that now I'm going to stop, or had a reason why I stopped, it just happened, I guess having a Music Law subject while studying also helped.
I honestly can't remember when last I downloaded any music illegally, I can't even remember when last I baught a CD, for the last couple of years it has only been iTunes.
Same with software, the last pirated Windows I had was Vista in 2009, I'm now on Windows 7 which came with my current PC and I baught Win10 Pro just the other day for my brand new PC build. Way back I had a pirated Office 2003 and later a 2007, but I've been subscribed to Office 365 for probably 2 - 3 years now and before that I had a legal 2010.
When I was still gaming while in highschool I actually had more legal games than pirated games, IIRC the only games I ever pirated was GTA Vice City and later San Andreas as well as a NFS or 2, think it was Underground 2 in those days and the one after that.

Back in the days before Mweb dropped the uncapped bombshell, we basically had no other way of playing CS:Source.

Nowadays, even pirating an OS is pretty stupid as you can run windows 10 quite happily without a licence. Most people who pirate are guaranteed to have encountered the nastiness of viruses and the effort required to clean them up. If I had to put on the tinfoil hat, I would say it is the game developers who put viruses in the cracked versions of their exes, then upload them. Ditto for office software and such.

Nothing makes you more appreciative of non-pirated software than having your computer suddenly become unusable at a project-critical time. This is the exact reason why piracy doesn't pay off if you need the software for your livelihood.

It all depends who the person is. If someone is going to be a dufus and just randomly download something and open it, obviously the risk is high. There are correct ways of pirating with 0% risk involved. It just requires some effort, or so I have been told. ;)

probably windows, as without that "most" people cant use a PC
then office, as same issue as above

then games, as not everybody has uncapped internet to download 20 odd GB's to get the legit version.

It is simply about trust.

How much do you trust random people on the internet?

There are basically two ways of 0% risk for piracy.
1) is if the program has rudimentary copy protection (e.g a CD key).
2) you crack the software yourself, or 100% trust someone who does.

That is it.

Every other option is going to have some sort of risk that you can't know about (unless if you go and debug all the code that the "fix" modifies). Ever wonder why all those "fixes" and "patches" don't have the accompanying source code?

Windows. Seen many people pay for their games/software, but still use a pirate copy of Windows.

What is "baught"?

Thats why you avoid public torrent sites. :) Dont be a pleb, use your head. Just keep using the normal security measures and you will be perfectly fine.

And using your head means taking the economics of piracy into account.

For some people, the time spent on running an antivirus and making sure the system is "clean" simply isn't worth it.

Only stupid/ignorant/extreeeemely lazy people run without an antivirus, even if they only partake in legitimate activities on their computers.

"Some people" expect to remain safe using Kasperky and Norton :crylaugh: . If you are refering to these people then yes, it isn's worth it. But on the other hand it is their choice to pay for an antivirus and still get screwed over. Dont look at this from a normie perspective. Think about it. No matter how good/expensive your antivirus is, if it is comercial, you are screwed. All it takes is a decent crypter to bypass most comercial AV's on the market. So what are your other options? Use your head. Only use a private sharing service. Use SHA checks. Use a seedbox. Full encryption, Up and Down along with some more private methods. Like I said earlier, its not easy but there is a way of torrenting with 0% risk. Thats what I have been told. ;)

Older Office.

Then expensive design software. Some people keep their systems offline and on an way older date to keep the software alive.

Why specifically older office?

You can crack the latest and greatest design suite without going offline or changing the time.

You can't even do that anymore...Windows 10 comes with Windows defender built in.

LeL, I dont mind paying for games as long as they are worth their money, R1000 for BF1? No ways.

Games are overpriced these days if you think about it. If I still used Windows as a base OS I probably would torrent for days.
