Hi Guys

Busy with a local web product and looking and need to decide on a Certificate Authority

Which of the following certs would give you the best peace of mind if you were to see the icon

  • Symantec
  • Thawte
  • Trustwave
  • Other

Unable to start a poll so will tally the scores manually.

What I hope that I hear you asking is "which CA should I trust to sign my certificates?".
It depends on what you want to use it for, and what you are trying to protect.
The best "peace of mind" (which I interpret as trust) is undoubtedly in the CA that you yourself own and control (assuming of course that you have invested in the skills and tech to maintain it). So my answer is "Other".

If your question is "which CA should I use to ensure that clients / business partners trust my certificate / signature / software update?"
It doesn't matter. The vast majority of people aren't actually concerned.

Let's encrypt
Or
Comodo free

Unless you want an EV

Then comodo

The average person is probably not as familiar with CA brands as they are with retail brands. If the browser does not display a certificate warning many people don't check the certificate or the CA. Do you always check who signed the SSL certificate of the sites you visit?

No, and it doesn't matter.

Nowadays having SSL doesn't mean your stuff is "secure" either...
