Good day fellow MyBBers

I hope this thread is in the right forum. Have been looking at the following:

Apple iPad 2
Motorola Xoom
Acer Iconia

A wi-fi only tablet is sufficient. Budget is R5000

Any suggestions on which to buy and where?

I still say that the iPad is the best tablet out there... For now. You can up them anywhere though.

Problem is I am itching to buy one now...

Heard the new ipad has heat issues. How true is that?

I'm not sure, but I could probably live with it... I don't see the new iPad taking too long to reach us and if you've gone this long without a tab then why not wait a few more weeks and get the best one available.

Insurance claim!

Not if you can get the iPad 2 for a bit cheaper.

Nothing wrong with the iPad2... get it... but everytime someone whips out a new iPad there'll be this little voice in the back of your mind saying maybe I should have waited.

+1 on the vote to wait for the iPad3. One of my colleagues here has one. It's a massive difference. The screen is amazingly good. Sitting his next to my iPad2 the 2 just immediately seems grainy and washed. If you can spend r5000, put it to one side and tap your fingers for a couple months.

Am i the only one who wishes for an iPad 2 specs with the iPad 3's battery? Screw the higher res screen and "Quad Core" graphics. I want longer battery life!

LOL Bro, don't be mean :D.

iPad 3 announcement imminient from Core Group in a few days :D...a feeling is all.

It will be the same price so wait to get it as has been said above.

One of the reasons i want to say the i3 is because the learning curve is the simplest i have seen on a Tab. :p

Tablets are useless!

I absolutely agree. In my honest opinion the craze around tablets is more about how cool everyone thinks they are than actually what they do.

The main thing tabs are for is web browsing and email. Im sorry, but I already have a PC, laptop and phone that can do that. Oh, and then of course you can play games on tabs,...lol,...yes that makes them worth it

My wife got a free tab from work. We both used it for about a month and honestly tried to find value in it. After a month it hasn't been charged since.

If people get tabs for the 'cool' factor or just to watch youtube vids and check email and are happy to pay +R5000 for that. Then ok,...fine. But other than that, I find them completely useless.

Thats where the ASUS PadPhone comes into play. It will replace your Phone, Tablet, Laptop, Wife and kids all at once!

For that price, one of the ipads is your best opinion. If you had a little more money you could have bought something better than an ipad, but and because of your constrained budget... ipad will be perfect for you.

Its easy to spot people who dont travel a lot. If you a travelled a lot, you would understand the pure gold of a tablet and how much better it is than a laptop in this regard.

I sit in lots of meetings and travel. Two places its uncomfortable to travel with a laptop. I dont like pulling out a bulky laptop at all the security checks, airports and restaurants. I dont like pulling out a bulky laptop at meetings and when I attend functions, a laptop is a big no no... but my 7" tablet does its job.

Cool, then in your case you have found a legitimate use for it. For those who dont travel regularly, my point stands. (of course it's just my opinion)

You're totally mistaken. I use mine 4-5 hours a day. It's the most useful device I own. It might not be useful for YOU but don't conflate your needs with everyone else's.
