Which TV to choose (another one sorry)

So I was going to order the 50" UHD Samsung from Makro today for R9999 but that special ended today :cry:

So out of the following which would be the best option:

Hisense 50" 3D Smart

Hisense 50" UHD 3D Smart

Hisense 55" 3D Smart

Samsung 48" 3D Smart

Sinotec 50" UHD 3D Smart

Sinotec 55" 3D Smart

Just to note, Smart features aren't really a must as I use a Roku 3 but 3D would be great as my kids enjoy it still.

The main uses will be Netflix, Hulu, Plex, Sport and XBOX One. I am currently using a 42" but want to go 50" or bigger for around R10k.

Would I see a huge difference between the FHD and UHD Hisense / Sinotec or is it just a waste of R2000? I know most are probably going to say go for the Samsung but for my needs won't a bigger TV be better?

I am just not sure do I go for a 55" FHD or a 50" UHD model Sinotec / Hisense. I suppose the 5 year warranty would be nice if I ever have any problems.
 
Something to keep in mind when buying 3D is that Hisense and Samsung uses active 3D glasses which cost around R250+ each whereas brands like LG uses passive 3D which is the same type as is used at the cinemas. Passive glasses are like R5 each and you don't suffer from headaches as you would from the active. I was also looking at Hisense and Samsung initially but Graham at Makro in Milnerton was very helpful in explaining all the options to me.

The Samsung active 3D glasses are R49.00 at Game. (I bought 8, just in case it was a pricing error).
 
Yeah I am aware of the difference between the 3D types but as mentioned that is not the most important to me (only going for it cause the kids still occasionally like to watch 3D). My main concern is the difference in 50" - 55" and whether to got for smaller UHD at 50" or bigger 55" FHD especially for my needs.

Forgot to mention, I currently sit roughly 2.6m from the TV.
 
The question you have to ask is will there be enough UHD content out there in the next 5 years to even watch before you get the next replacement? Personally I don't think so, even the US hasn't started filming in UHD yet.

I would go for the bigger FHD TV, I recommend android on them rather than manufacturers own software. From personal experience(SO's family has one) that Hisense 55" is great.

Oh and don't know what poster above is talking about but active 3d is much better.

Yeah I read about UHD content not being ready for a while. My question is will the picture quality still look the same between UHD and FHD when watching sport, netflix, plex and playing xbox one or will the UHD look better?

And is the Hisense a better choice than the Sinotec? There are so many different stories out there.

That I can't help you with I'm afraid. All I can say is that Hisense 55" looks really great.

Given that HD content has to be upscaled to fit UHD, you are unlikely to notice much of a difference.

I wouldn't make your purchasing decision on UHD, but the upside of having UHD is that your TV will last longer.

That being said, it also depends on how long you plan to keep this one for. It might be better to buy an UHD TV when they are really popular, because they will be cheaper then.

Can you spend R7k - R8k on this TV, now, and then spend another R7k - R8k in 3 years time on a new UHD TV? With inflation, the R7k to R8k that you spend might be worth R6k in today's money.

Yeah that was my thinking exactly if there wasn't much of a difference to rather buy a FHD TV for cheaper than a UHD and in a few years when UHD content is more widely available then look into purchasing a new TV again.

So now it comes down to spending R8k on a 50" or R10k on a 55" - with the 5" make such a huge difference considering the distance we sit is roughly 2.6 m?
 
You can google calculators that will tell you the maximum screen size that you should get for your seating distance. I seem to remember that basically 55 inch will not be too big for most people. Depends on you I guess.

So whether to get 50 or 55 inches depends on personal preference and budget I guess.

OK perfect. Yeah I saw the size chart and my distance it says should be a 51".

Would that 50" Hisense be a good choice? I am worried about picture quality or should that not concern me anymore? There is the Samsung 48" but that is smaller and not sure how good that model was.

A lot of people have different, and very strong, opinions about this.

My opinion is that the quality of the cheaper brands has increased a lot in recent years, and I don't really think it is worth paying the extra money for a brand like Samsung.

I've got a ByDsign 40 inch TV that I bought in 2010. It hasn't given me any issues. Sure, it has almost no features, but that is fine, it doesn't have to. Modern TVs would look much better, but then, a modern HiSense would be a massive improvement, as would a modern Samsung.

Go look at the TVs yourself in Makro or Game whatever, and see what you think. Could you tell the difference between them, if you didn't know one was Samsung and the other HiSense?

Yeah cool I agree.

Will go have a look tomorrow and see what it looks like. From what I remember the Hisense and Sinotec ones I have seen lately have actually looked quite good and sleek and the picture quality been great.

I don't care for any of the smart features as I have a Roku for that so as long as the picture quality is good then I am happy.
