A black hole in the universe - JHB
Morning guys and girls
I want to maybe get a UHD or better TV, have about 55 000 E Bucks that are burning a hole in my wallet.
Was looking at Takealot to purchase one but dont really know what to go for, possibly 55" dont mind adding some money into it.
Any recommendations?
Something smart, something high quality, maybe Samsung or LG, not convinced about Hisense but am open to it.
I am currently using an LG 55 thats mainly for gaming and PC use so it would be to replace it I want to give the current one to my better half
Would appreciate some help

Thanks in advance

Here is the list of whats available, need some advice

Don't think you can go wrong with either of these - I have the older spec Samsung and it works pretty well for me for TV, streaming and playing PlayStation on;

Quantum Dot and QLED are essentially the same thing just different names.

The OLED's are just a bit too pricey at the moment..

Go LG, I had a Samsung and was not very happy with it. It got fried by lightning and I managed a LG 55" LED Smart TV for under R11K.

Personally I would not buy a TV from Takealot, sucks that Makro is no longer a partner with eBucks.

But I'd definitely go LG.

I got the 49-UM7340PVA (49 inch UHD with smart remote) for I think like R5500 but that was last year June.
Best TV I've ever had.

OLED is not always the best option.

If the TV is going to be in a bright room where it's difficult to control the light in the room then don't get an OLED as they won't get as bright as a similarly priced LCD.

If you're going to have the TV on constantly with news channels or other programming with lots of static content, DON'T get an OLED.

Other options to look at are Samsung QLEDs or the Hisense QLED and ULED (just try to stay away from the really cheap stuff).

So it seems OLED is not the way to go them, I assume QLED is expensive?
Maybe the Hisense is an option to look at , what are your thoughts?

Yep, don't get me wrong. I own an LG OLED and love it and blows other TVs out of the water when it comes to picture quality and the pixel response time, but you should know its limitations and where to rather use a different technology.

The Samsung QLEDs are quite pricey but we were talking about OLED so it would be in a similar ballpark. I don't know much about recommending TVs except what I watch and read on sites like Rtings.com and HDTVtest. These are generally the brand/models that get recommended the most that you can get locally.

If the OLED is out of budget, I would look at the following:

Samsung Q70T
LG Nano86

These are both "next gen" TVs, meaning they support the latest HDMI 2.1 spec. And you'll get the most out of the PS5, Xbox Series X, and anything else coming out in future.

My preference would be the Nano86, since it has 2 HDMI 2.1 ports instead of 1, as well as the better OS...

Got the Nano86 a couple weeks ago and very happy with it. Only complaint is the local dimming isn't too great, but otherwise its really good.

Turn it off completely. Local dimming is not great on the Nano series. Blacks won't be as black, but at least it will be consistent and less distracting...

I thought you would know better than this burn-in nonsense...
