Heya people

So, I need at least 2 tyres for my A4 2.0. Supa Quick currently having specials, quoted me R1650 for a Firestone 215/55R16. I think it's the TZ700. Is this a good price? Wait, first, is this a good tyre? If not, what should I be looking at? (And any idea as to cost?)

Are you sure it's not 215? Premium or excellent high quality will cost you a lot more, but you can still find high quality tyres cheaper from Medium to small size brands. Goodyear, Dunlop, Michelin,Pirelli and Continental specific ones can be pricey but they excellent tyres if you know where to look. Toyo, Nexen, Falken, Nokian will be cheaper. Hankook and Yokohama are sometimes cheaper but not always.

Bridgestone Turanza T001
Yokohama BluEarth-A AE50
Hankook Ventus Prime 3 K125
Hankook Ventus Prime 2 K115
Falken Ziex Ze-914 Ecorun
Toyo Proxes CF2
Nexen N Fera SU1
Nexen N Blue HD Plus; Nexen N Blue Eco
Nokian Line
Nokian Hakka Green 2

You will find it cheaper to get a set of 17" mags + tires than 4 x 16" tires.

Woops, sorry, yes, typo! Thanks for the info. I shall look around.

+1million I weep everytime i have to buy 16 inch tyres

Dang! Sooo the earlier I make the switch, the better. Thing is I know NOTHING about mags. Wouldn't know what's a good deal, or what the pros and cons are of the wheels I'm buying. Can you guys (/girls?) recommend someone trustworthy in CT that can sort me out? Thanks of the advice so far; it is hugely appreciated.

I've been very happy with the Michelin Primacy 3 and more recently Pilot Sport 3 tyres on my A3. Good grip and decent mileage if you treat them well.

Not sure which side of CPT you're on but Tyremart in Milnerton have treated me well.

Go to Tiger Wheel and Tire, they are quite clued up. Autoquip and Minty's are also good.

I definitely wouldn't put Dunlop in the same class as the other tyres mentioned.

@OP - what is currently on the car?

*cough* I think it's Dunlop (bought the car with it).

And the spare is also in use (one of the tyres wouldn't pass roadworthy) is a Bridgestone.

Bridgestone is pretty good as well. I'd go for Michelin Pilot Sport 3 or Continental. As mentioned, have a look at finding a set of 17" rims.

Why? Depending on a specific one, Many tire websites all seem to list Dunlop in same category, mabye some have different opinions. I know specific Dunlop tyres have come out on top according to Autobuild tyre in certain times. I know some have positive and some have negative view on all tyres doesn't matter which brand, everyone has their own experience view.

For real? Would 17" tyres fit on my car?

Just keep in mind when changing tire sizes, it is recommend staying you within less than 3% of the diameter/height of the original tire. Any more than this and you face the risk of brake failure. You can you use a tyre calculator to work this out or the tyre retailers experts would suggest the correct plus size for you. Also the specific tyres model are I mentioned are 16 inch, some of the results would change if it was 17 inch. If you do some research on the internet they will provide you some useful guide on which tyres to choose. If you not sure you can use Tyre label rating (Wet, Rolling Resistance/Fuel consumption rating A - F) as a guidline or Autobuild tyre test results.

I am quite fond of Hankook tyres.
I currently have the Evo ventus that I has done 50 000km and looks like it could possibly do another 50 000 km.

Also, if you move to 17inch rims, stick with no name brand or at the very worst audi branded ones. Saw some pillock yesterday with porsche rims on a polo wiwo GT... Damn looked retarded.
