Ok guys,

I am needing to buy 2 ultrabooks for work. I need something fairly fast as I would like to use it for development. It HAS to have integrated 3G as well.

Currenly have a Dell XPS L702x but it is way too big for travelling which I do quite often

Any options. I dont mind a Macbook Air (although I said I wouldnt buy anything from Apple) but does it have integrated 3G?

Would love the 15" Series 9 to be released this year but Samsung themselves dont even know when it is being released.

Any ideas?

I doubt you will find any laptops these days with integrated 3G.
Why don't you just use a USB 3G dongle?

I suppose I could but then I have to deal with crappy software from MTN / Vodascum. I guess more for convenience.

I will have to if I can find anything though...

No, but not sure I'd want it integrated.

My older Dell E6400 has integrated 3G, convenient however the issue is once the ventilation efficiency reduces over time (due to dust) you start getting into overheating problems. The 14" E6400 is compact but not as thin as a ultrabook, so I'd hate to see the heat problems integated 3G would create with an ultrabook.

Happy to use an external Vodafone K3765 (in both OSX & Win7) with my 13" Macbook Air, can run for hours on 3G even though the Vodafone dongle gets damn hot.

Thanks, are you running OSX or Windows or both on your Macbook Air. I am probably going to need both but the other user will mainly use Windows. What are your thoughts on that?

Being a heavy Win/Office user, I probably send 70% of my time in Win7 64, with the remainder in OSX Lion, mostly after hours.

The main hw limitation on the (current) Air is max 4GB RAM, so I rather use dual boot (Bootcamp) instead of a VM solution like Parallels. There is just not enough RAM to maintain slick responses with 2 OS loaded into mem and a large amount of apps (e.g. most of the Office 2010 suite). Because of the SSD, OS swapping is pretty snappy e.g. from restart to login screen OSX->Win=45sec, Win->OSX=25sec.

So yeah pretty happy with the 13" Air as a Win ultrabook, there are a few minor anomolies but the light weight & slimness more than compensate. I couldnt go back to a std compact 14" type Win laptop.

very helpful thanks.

will look into the asus models as per user above but seem to be leaning on the Air, I cant believe I just said that.

I'm considering a Macbook Air as well as the Zenbook. I've been using OSX a bit recently and I like it. So recently I've been looking out for announcements regarding the new range of Air's. Lot's of rumours and speculation, but nothing concrete. What seems likely is that there's going to be a 15" ultra think laptop coming soon, somewhere in April -> June, that's Ivy Bridge, and maybe an Air, or a full on MBP(though this should be heftier I'd imagine). Also, there may be a Retina display in the line-up somewhere, but it's all just rumour.

Ivy bridge is set to release in Q2 of 2012, so it is likely that the new Macbook Air's should pop us soon.. so if might be something to consider if you're going that route. It's suck to buy two 2011 Air's now, and the new ones pop up in 2 months.

Any1 got an idea on when the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabooks will be available in SA. An article in January on MyBB said that it will be released in February but I can't find them anywhere?

yep this waiting thing is frustrating...

Thing is I need them in the next couple of weeks...
