Hey myBB'ers,

Two first year students moving into a digs, looking for a bundled ADSL package to share(they aren't too tech-savvy).

I'm assuming the best bet would be a 4mb uncapped deal with line included. Any suggestions/comments?

TIA.

Telkom Do Premium 4mbps uncapped. R585/month.
Throttling doesn't work on a star system (which way is better) and works after a threshold (I think it's about 300 gigs).

EDIT: I remember now. I think that the throttling works day to day, so if you download a lot every day, your bar will go more yellow/red (bad), because it predicts that you are going to use over the threshold by the end of the month -- but then it only takes effect once you have gone red. I used to use about 6~12 gigs per day and never got throttled.

Is she hot?

Just go with a telkom 2mb/s uncapped bundle which will become a 4mb/s service in april after the free upgrades.

If they aren't too tech savvy they likely won't be using so much. Don't limit yourself to uncapped.

I say the opposite. A non-tech-savvy person wouldn't know how to keep in the cap and likely end up using it on YouTube videos in the first two weeks :P

It depends on the usage pattern.

Thanx folks, I'll probably go for the 2mb/s from Telkom - R394/month plus R166.50 for the line.

Has that been confirmed? :)

Yea has that been confirmed?

No it has not.

Previous rumours wrt speed upgrades all became reality. These rumours usually start from internal Telkom sources in the know and are usually pretty accurate so safe to bet on from experience. Official announcements are usually close to implementation.

We all know they have to upgrade at some point so it doesn't mean the rumours come from internal sources. They have been circulating for well over a year so I wouldn't place any bets on them.

I'll put a R100 on it, keen? You should win.

I think that the jump from 4mbps to 10mbps is quite a far fetch. I'd expect them to upgrade to maybe 8mbps at the max. Perhaps they will make the jump.

I'm thinking that 2 becomes 4 and the rest stay the same.
