Which video formats?

Hi, I have a WD media player which plays all formats, however, when a friend tries to play them through their 32" Sony Bravia Model 32EX400 they won't all play. What should I convert them to so that they can be played?

Maybe specify which ones aren't playing and which ones are?

Then convert the ones that aren't playing into the ones that are?

Not such a dumb question

You might find that some avi`s play, and some don`t. Use a divx video, mp3 audio, and an avi container.
I prefer matroska(mkv) but its not very compatible.
