Which VPN do you use?

I recently signed up for NordVPN's 2 year deal which has an unbeatable price. However, i have had some issues with it. Essentially, i want some protection when going online and i still want to enjoy the services i currently have. When i activate the VPN using the desktop app, i experience little annoying network issues, such as Gmail always failing to send the first time (you have to press the send button a second time after failure). Of more concern is that (even when setting the server to South Africa) i cannot access streaming services such as ShowMax or DSTV Now or Netflix. That last one is a real headache. NordVPN does support Netflix, but not in South Africa, so you have to set it to a foreign location, which would be fine, but it still doesn't work. You access the sites just fine, but when you try and stream you get an error.
Rather than trying to figure this out, i figured i would take them up on the money-back guarantee and go with one that works here in South Africa. Any suggestions?

I've never come across a VPN that doesn't tank performance, and I've used most of the popular ones at some or other time.

Signing up for a year or more of any service without testing it properly is asking for trouble. My favourite VPN is probably VyprVPN. But I wouldn't just leave it running. VPNs aren't even good for streaming boxes - smart DNS services are far superior.

None.

Betternet on my phone when I need to and Opera otherwise on PC.

Express vpn is pricey, but they have a ton of bandwidth and implement a lot of the necessary best practices.
