I need your opinion on which website page is more intuitive (both perform exactly the same functions).

Option 1: https://www.overhere.co.za/get-a-mapcode/
Option 2: https://www.overhere.co.za/findme/

I started my site with Option 1 because I like the big map ... but I realise it's actually not intuitive. It's better to present information only when it's required, so Option 2 is a streamlined flow.

What do you think? Did you have any questions while using either?

Find Me.

In smaller tabs the word 'Find Me' makes more sense and hints at what the site offers, whereas 'Get a better...' means nothing. I also prefer the narrow margin of clear info on the Find Me lander, the other site has these two long lines of tl;dr.

:) Happy to hear! I fell into the biggest trap of developing things for myself, and then realised I gotta make it way easier. Did you try the "fine-tune on map" button? I stripped all the unnecessary map controls to make it dead easy.

Option 2 is cleaner.

but I must ask, are you aware of what3words?

Your Kimberley location would be captive.glove.funny

Thanks for checking Dave! I am aware of what3words, but it's not open source and I feel that mapcodes are way shorter and language-agnostic (what3words don't work that well in a country like ours with 11 official languages - whereas anybody can spell the alphabet).

Option 2, just looks much cleaner.
Ok cool Greg, I'll switch over to this and simplify my homepage too ... I have been so focused on developing new things, but now I gotta cut back and refocus on the key functions.

findme is better, but we are integrated with what3words and now with ER24 pushing them in SMS and TV and Radio it will soon become the defacto.

Option 2 flows much better, your first option feels clumsy against it.
Just perhaps sort out the "mouseovers" on the links before making it live.

Nah I don't reckon so, but time will tell ;P In 1000 years, mapcodes will still work. what3words as a company won't be around anymore. Which addressing system would you rather switch to at a national level, the paid-for or the open source one?

Um, what's wrong with the mouseovers currently? I didn't see any issues when I tested it. And thanks, I guess that's the goal of any development lol.

The problem isn’t what happens in 1000 years, it’s what will be the de facto standard in 5 years time...

The paid-for one with accountability, not the one run by volunteers.

But that is another discussion.
Ok, which is the better address for the traffic roundabout at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town?

Mapcode: 83.CP
OR
what3words: triathlete.globes.optimally

Never mind for non-English speakers, that even sucks for me.

And mapcodes were invented by the founders of TomTom, not a lunatic in a shed. TomTom staff are still involved as volunteers, but the mapcode system is maintained by the Mapcode Foundation. What makes you trust what3words?

A defacto standard that considers "triathlete.globes.optimally" to be a viable address is like betamax ... it won't fly. Or do you think that's actually something you'd want to use?

Its not what my opinion is, the problem alternatives face is that what3words is already gaining traction, for example, the UN use it, Mercedes have already added it to their Satnav systems, as Thor says, it’s been publicised in SA by ER24.

Yeah, businesses make bad decisions because of marketing. But they also self-correct ... over time, better technologies have won out over inferior products with better marketing. So what you think personally is very much part of it.

Are these the same as Google map plus codes that show on Google maps?
