Which would you pick?

Factory standard changed to 7 years when the new models came out last year.

But then you’d get 5-6 years surely with it being a 2024 model?

Also check the upper kilometre limit doesn’t screw you.

*****

Sneaky edit I see it’s 75,000km which depending on your use might not be too bad.

Will also include the expensive gearbox service which I think is at 70,000km.

Mahindras are ugly
They all ugly. Have you gone and see it in real life and driven with it?
I feel a bit more safe with Mahindra, they a bit longer in the country and better record than all these new Chinese vehicles. Haval also starting to build some history and track record. Chery on the other hand we know how that ended the first time.

Yes, the plans mentioned in OP is from sale. I'll obviously only have the remainder.

I drive about 10000km a year. I should be okay.

Hmm that is more tough to answer.

Look I've been a vocal Mazda fan here & normally I would say the CX-3 but that platform & design is rather old now in late 2025 & actual space utilization is marginally better than the Mazda 2 (just a tad higher).

I mentioned in another thread at my impressions of my old man's box fresh "LIT" povo spec Tiggo 4 Pro, it feels & drives better than what it's price reflects. I just think the rear looks dated compared to the Tiggo Cross.

Not sure why you mentioned the Jolly-On & not the Tiggo 4 Pro

My top 3 would be:

- Tiggo 4 Pro
- Fronx GLX
- CX-3 but not the Active, the middle or higher tier

The Haval with 7 years of no worries seems like a no brainer for the money, unless the spec is considerably worse over the others, I don’t know the City Plus or how it compares to the rest.

As above though what about a Tiggo?

If the Fronx is the automatic variant I would stay far away, the 4 speed auto can be incredibly annoying. You might be able to get the Tiggo Cross (the new Tiggo 4) in roughly the same price range, it's the newest of the lot and received a 4 star 2025 Euro NCAP rating.

Fair enough.

Chery Tiggo it is then.
I'm not a car guy, so this is all foreign to me. What's the win of Chery over Haval?

Personally I feel Haval is the more premium car, but ultimately will differ between models and price points.

More a case of giving you options for the money.

At this stage of the game re: Chery vs Haval at this crossover level it is two sides of the same coin. Good spec, keen pricing, decent ride.

Test drive both (apples to apples spec), choose the brand or design that speaks to you more, maybe take into acc the warranty & service plan & dealership rollout close to you as well.

My 2c on the topic.

I found this graph (and actually the whole report), pretty interesting. It's the value loss of a new car over 3 years.

It from the cars.co.za industry report

P.s. car wise Corolla cross would be my first choice, but they theft rate on those is ridiculous.

Thanks. That helps. I've taken the Jolion for a spin, will do the Chery tomorrow.

I stay a stone's throw away from Hatfield so I have access to all the dealerships a man could want.

Hi heard that fuel consumption is not great on the Tiggo. Especially vs the Fronx. Is that true?

I need some expits to help me out here. I sold my car today, so need to make a decision on the new car pretty soon. Faced with the following, which would you pick

  • 2024 Suzuki Fronx GLX, 25 000km. 1.5 NA. Comes with 4 year service plan. R304 500.
  • 2024 Haval Jolion City Plus, 30 000km. 1.5T. Comes with 7 year service plan. R304 500.
  • 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross GLS, 57 000km. 1.5T. Out of service plan. R284 500.
  • 2024 Mazda CX-3 Active, 15 000km. 2.0 NA. 3 year service plan. R295 000.

Fronx is really nice (driven in one a lot). Excellent fuel consumption. Cheap parts. Tech is excellent on the GLX (360 cam, HUD). Proven reliability with that K15B engine.

Mazda, ehh. Love the quality (I have a Mazda 2), but the CX-3 has known suspension knocking problems.
The boot is also the size of a Mazda 2 as it's based on the 2 and not the 3 like the CX-30.
Active spec is seriously basic - no camera, no park sensors, not even a touchscreen.

Ford Puma? Those prices are in the same ballpark as a 1 year old...

It seems they switched to a timing chain for the 1.0l in the Puma, but with the oil pump still driven by a wet belt. There seem to be some good deals, but I wouldn't take the chance.

Just not Haval. All the people who can't afford a real SUV drive them.

Mazda for sure. But take out more debt and getting a higher spec

My bro-in law is very happy with his Haval.

What evidence do you have for this sweeping statement?

Depends a lot on your personal situation but the Mitsubishi is a lot of car for the money....

Fronx should be the most economical to own long term, Mazda would be the best drive.

Isn't Active the lowest spec on the Mazda?

The Suzuki or the Jolion gets my vote.

The Fronx is basically a Starlet Cross... And GLX is the upper trim, right?
