Which would you pick?

Fuel consumption update:

I was out and about this morning. I drove 77km, a mixture of city and about 40km open road sections (80kmh and 100kmh), with a bit of overtaking on the open road. And three or four stops along the route. Fuel consumption was 7.3l/100km. That's really decent if you ask me.
I got my 2025 Toyota Corolla Cross last Friday. Sitting at 7.2l/100km. My open road driving was closer to 120kmh that was about 75% of the 400km odd I have done this far. Bit higher consumption do to living on a mountain outside Piketberg. Driving up the steep pass kills the consumption

Overwise, decent build and spec. It is the basic XI model I got with 2500km on the clock. 6 Year 90 000km service plan and extended warranty to August 2031. So far, so good

Very nice!! What did it set you back?

My XUV 3x0 is still sitting around 12l/100km so still 8.33 but I've not done any open road just town driving and not even long trips really.

Thanks for reminding me of that dismal fuel consumption.

I picked it up somewhere once in a review or Indian comment.

How do you think it compares to the Chinese vehicles?

No idea, don't have a chinese vehicle, plus I've literally had the car for 500km so cannot base mileage off that.

I hit 5000km on the odometer today (1700km since I bought it) and figure it's time for an update.

I'll keep it short - I really like this car and given the choice would do exactly the same again.

Lifetime average fuel consumption is at 8.1l/100km, and falling. When I fetched it from the dealer it was over 12. It's pretty thirsty in heavy traffic (over 10) but surprisingly efficient on the open road. I did a trip to Potch recently and that averaged out at 7.2 for the day.

Did you consider the MG ZS (nee Pro)?

You're open to Chinese already, I've seen a fair number on the road already & all these MG's (ICE & EV) are shifting serious volume in the UK.

N/A engine & 4 speed auto are the major cons though.

Bump. We went past an MG dealership yesterday, took the ZS Pro Luxury for a test drive, and pulled the trigger then and there. Picking it up tomorrow.

The ride quality and interior is incredible, and not just for its price range either. There's a few things I noticed where they cut some costs, none of which bothers me - it has single zone climate control (how much do you really use dual zone anyway) and wired AA/CP (get a wireless dongle).

Changing my mind on this thread, anyone shopping in this bracket should go test drive a ZS Pro (not the normal ZS, those are kak). Standard 7 year / 200,000km warranty, 5 year service plan too...

Congrats. Saying farewell to the Meg RS?

Nice. Yeah the NA MGs just felt flat here in JHB but the ZS was just out of price range for me.
On my side Clio and Triber sold last week and was enough to buy a Magnite Acenta CVT cash (sorta).

We tested the 3XO last week. Was decent but the boot was tiny. That would have been R360k for the highest spec, the MG was only R50k more after I scored a discount...

Yeah it only has a 354l boot it's not big at all, but I don't have small kids anymore and don't need big boots. It is also one of the reasons we finally got rid of the Triber, kids are older don't need to lug around a lot of stuff anymore
Last week we went out test driving cars and the wife just liked the Magnite the best and we got it for R300k for the Acent CVT.
That MG ZS Pro is really nice and you got a bargain, just when I test drove the NA models they were flat, but I mean it is JHB and we need turbos up here.

Nice looking cars but can't those Magnites give lots of issues?

Can't any car give issues? The nature of the game, you can get duds and you can get winners. Generally you'll just hear more about the problems then the winners, they're the same car essentially as the Kiger and you don't hear as many complaints on those.
But we will see how it goes, people moan about French cars all the time but having had one for 6 years no issues.
