Which x570 motherboard ?

Hi all,

So decided to go team AMD in a months time.
Still deciding on the 3600x or 3700x. Coming from a intel i7 6700 ( non K )

My board choices so far have been

The two gigabytes are in the list because i'm not quite sure what the big difference between the two are.
MSI, well i'm still unsure on this one, havn't tried a MSI board in over 10 years...
The ASUS looks great, specs seem good.. price is meh, quite on the high end.
I've read a few reviews where people complain about dead Gigabyte x570 boards. Maybe some of you have this board/boards and can tell me if it's a great option
 
All X570 bords are useless unless you running extreme NVME drives. the only difference is PCI 4.

I chose a X570 bord for plug in CPU compatibility. from there I will Do updates.
 
Reason i'm going x570 is due for AMD's road-map(future proof). As we just saw, AMD 3rd gen works fine on the 450/470 range.

There will probably a socket change after the next cpu release. amd said they supporting the current socket until 2020...

I would save money and get a b450 tomahawk max.

msi x570 vrm implementation sucks, gigabyte and asus are the way to go if you insist on x570. can provide vrmbasedtech review links on those if you want

Check Hardware Unboxed on YouTube, they did a brilliant video on budget x570 boards VRM's.
Also save some cash and get. 3600 instead of the 3600x, they are the same chip. The 3600 can be overclocked to 3600x specs.

You don't really need x570, b450 will do the job.
 
I watched this and bought the Gigabyte Aorus x570 Elite.
What pushed me in the direction of the Aorus Elite vs Asus TUFF gaming, is that while both are $200, the Gigabyte is R4k, while the Asus was R5500 when I bought. I see they are closer in price now.

On the Elite, I had some issues where the memory XMP profile would not persist between shutdowns. I removed and reseated the motherboard battery and now it's fine.

I have a 3700X, and went for the X570 boards since I kept my previous CPU for 8 years. Hopefully I can keep this board and ram for a similar amount of time, and buy the best previous gen CPU I can afford when one comes out on a new socket. They said they would support AM4 until AT LEAST 2020.

Do not get the MSI MPG.

For example, lets say Ryzen 5000 comes out and is the first CPU on the new AM5 or whatever platform. I will then buy a Ryzen 4000 CPU, which would still be on AM4, thereby giving me some time until I have to do a complete MB+RAM+CPU upgrade again.

This from my current i7 6700 ( non k ) with the Asrock z270 extreme4

This is with my 1080ti, i believe this would be a lekker upgrade for my gpu... any thoughts?

Why the X? It's a lot more for a minute performance increase.

True , it's better to go for the 3600. I do have a corsair H105 aio, so i should be able to clock it easy.

Will the h105 fit the board :x
 
Oky just ordered the Auros Elite and 3600 ( non x )
Wootware was nice to offer the AM4 bracket for free to mount my cooler
 
So got the parts , installed and booted.

Seems like the x570 still have some kinks. Xmp profile has an issue to enable, system does not boot. Read on other forums that it's quite a big number of people with the same problem.

For now i got it to boot at 2666mhz at least.

Thermals are a bit high on the cpu, but i think i know why. The fans on the heatsink are cheap static fans ..

But there is an upside, my previous cpu was at 85-100% usage while gaming. This gave massive frame drops on the 1080ti.

Now with the new 3600 im getting 35-50% cpu usage. A lekker drop
 
Have you updated the bios?
The CPU runs a bit warm on idle, but doesn't really get that hot under load either. The latest bios supposedly lowers idle voltages as well, so that could improve.
Tbh, it runs much cooler than my i7 2600K did with its stock cooler.

Yeah F5a downloaded and updated. Ram modules are in A2 and B2 as per Gigabytes forum as well.

True, idle is around 29-34 and under load it hits 61 max
 
So did a BIOS update, F5b. The peak stock frequencies are looking good i'd say.
is this the silicon lottery some reviewers are referring to?
