Whisk(e)y Lovers thread(II)

One thing everybody must take into account: how good was the spirits being distilled at TSW 21 years ago...compared to the quality of today?

I tried what is now the 21 at 17, 18 and 19 years of age. It was fantastic at 17 and 18, less so at 19. I think @BartSimpson shares these sentiments, IIRC.

R2850 is too much for me right now. What I worry about is poor Andy sitting by the whisky wall trying to flog the first 400 on the 20th.... Distel marketing dept....

My fear is the pursuit of a large 21yo batch was more for 'prestige' than quality whisky. I also think that the pricing teams need to catch a wake up, especially Bain's. I think R2000-R2200 is probably where this should have landed but given the Bain's shenanigans I expected R2500.

On value for the buyer this is going to depend on a lot of subjective criteria. Given the uniqueness of this at 17/18 I think it still falls into my personal must-have, I've not come across anything that ticks that box. Although I think the packaging looks a bit tacky (and I like most of the other Three Ships Packaging...).

I fear this whisky wall might be a slow one...

Oddly enough - when they had the first wall and announced the price - my comment at the time was that they were going to battle to move them and that I was not likley to buy one.

I did buy one and they did move - 20th going to be interesting.

I think R1900 would have been a reasonable price. Andy did say once that it was going to be an "affordable" 21yo. Clearly Distell had other ideas.
