Completely left field but try and sample a kavalan, any of the 3 good ones. Changed my life. Next day I bought the vinho barrique cask. Such an epic dram for me.

I do love my Asian whiskys and was eyeing that last time. 3 good ones? Not sure which ones?

A good portion of the enjoyment factor is it being uniquely South African, try it on the rocks if you didn't first time around.

They have a port cask one and a rum cask. Ill take a look and see if I find them. I had all of them and the vinho is divine. Next time you are in cpt let me know and you must come over for a braai and a vinho.

Think will give it a try in a short cocktail, perhaps a splash of ginger ale and ice.

Gaia and the 2 SA releases is a good start.

What I really enjoyed about waw when we went there is we booked a tasting off their menu and when we were done with that based on our feedback on the tasting and discussions with the host she recommended some other whiskies from their independent bottlings and it turned out to be a really great tasting.

So you could approach it with going in on what you think you want to try or you could let a knowledgeable host guide you on an impromptu journey.

There's a specific host at WaW who is particularly good. I can't remember her name right now, but younger brunette lady. Whenever we go we usually tell her to bring out the odd stuff, and that we're in the mood for peat, salt, sherry, whatever. You end up with some really exclusive stuff from hidden cupboards which come nowhere close to the menu. Definitely the way to go about it, in my mind. As long as you don't go in counting pennies that is.

I think we might have had her the last time I was there, she was actually working in some of the distilleries that side and knew her stuff inside out!

Yeah when I go there it's always a treat, I don't go with the aim of buying a bottle of anything in particular but trying things I have never had before.

Wow wow wow Wild about whisky never ever disappoints just going to pop the receipt in as we had a bit of everything thanks to all for their recommendations @MightyQuin @morkhans and @Jitters . Tried a few tequilas I was eyeing as well.

As always a really great experience!

Glad to have finally got some of the ardbeg scorch was really a winner! Sean helped us really knowledgeable and was a pleasure to deal with him.

Had a small tasting yesterday....some great new bottles that I have been waiting to open. The stuff from Texas was epic:

By the way...I never mentioned the extremely important fact that @morkhans and @ginggs also joined again, among others that are not members here.

We do make a formidable tasting team...

Just be careful. Many have reported that their cork broke while opening as it's been on the shelf for years (possibly since 2013). I lay mine on it's side for a few days to moisten and managed to open without issues.

After all the hype and local "hysteria" re. this dram, I also went through major efforts to obtain a bottle.

I found it harsh and thin and extremely overrated IMHO...swapped it with another member.

Others seem to love it...
