I stipped my wife's PC to do a general cleanout of dust bunnies - the idiots that put it together seemed to have spread white thermal paste over the whole CPU - the CPU is a socket A, Athlon 2500 and the paste should only be on the CPU core! (see pic.)

Any ideas what I can use to clean this all off - they even managed to get it on some of the pins! I've managed to remove a bulk of it that was caked on the top of the CPY, nut I want to get it all off.

I use isopropyl alcohol with great success. You can get some from the pharmacy :)

Nah, I use a wire brush mounted on a drill :D

Just joking... elbow grease, a couple of small pieces of mutton clothes, rubbing alcohol/meth spirits and lots of time and patience will work wonders :)

If you use methylated spiutirs through half a loaf bread, SPIT is what drips on your CPU, which you wipe of with your sleeve...

can't always get isopropyl alcohol from pharmacies, go for http://www.mantech.co.za or omia protea chemicals. at pharmacy you'll pay about zar50 for 500ml, at mantech about zar200 for 5000ml :)
i know i'm 12 years late on this, but still...
