I have been tasked with sorting out the following...

Linking up a 40" screen (no TV tuner) to our DStv box on the other side of the building.

I'd reckon it's about 30m or so, following the passage - the cabling has to be routed this way too.

Secondly, they want to be able to take this screen off of the wall, carry it up to roof and hang it on another mount up there - for functions, etc.

It would also need a DStv connection up there and obviously sound at both locations too.

We're in Kyalami, JHB.

If you can help, please PM me.

Thanks, Nic

Well, the most simple would be to move the DSTV decoder with the screen every time.
Just run long co-ax cables from the antenna via a splitter to each of the locations.

To run the AV signal over long distances becomes costly and you could potentially loose signal quality.

Thanks for the answer wk.

I'm not at logical liberty to answer parts of your reply freely... :D

The distance is one of my proposed worries too.

Do you get boosters for this type of situation?

Wire up some Coax (Aerial cable) to all the rooms from the dish.

Move the decoder and tv whenever you need to or just buy another cheapish decoder (use the current R649 special to your advantage) then just move the card.

This sounds like a job for an AV extender system: you could go with a 4-way transmitter on the decoder end (they come in 1/4/8/16 configurations) which has you covered for the two places you want the screen and the corresponding receiver (or just have a receiver at each locale) with the screen. It runs over CAT5 and you're good (according to specs) for 300m between ends. If you like the sound of this I can get prices and quote tomorrow.

Thanks for the help, gents.

We're looking more at getting someone in to do this rather than doing it in-house...

Could you help with that, bdt?

EDIT! This is now on hold...and my blood pressure is rising.
