Manager of all time  ,give me your top 3 and why you think they are the best

here is my top 3 Managers of all time

1. Rinus Michells :The man revolutionized the sport so much so that we still play with attacking fullbacks today ,def the greatest coach

2. Bob Paisley : Still the only man to win 3 european cups ,and his trophy winning record in the amount of time he was in charge was just  he was in charge for 9 years winning league 6 times and finishing 2nd on 2 other times

3. Matt Busby : The Man built the United legacy to come back after losing your team and almost your own life ,then to build up a team conquering Europe is just absolutely amazing

some of the coaches that missed out was (in no particular order)

Bill Shankly ( he never won a european cup although he took Liverpool from the 2nd division to league champs and won Liverpools first Fa cup if he wasnt robbed in the 1965 european cup semi against the dirty/cheat of a Inter Manager Hererra :mad:he maybe would have been in my top 3 but he didnt win the biggest club competition

Alex Ferguson he misses out as he has just taken to long to achieve what he has achieved in the game ,the man has managed Manure for 23 years and only won 2 european cups

Ernst Happel : the man won leagues in 4 different countries and won 2 european cups with unfancied teams like Feyernoord and Hamburg

so who's your top 3 :)

Rinus Michels. Obviously.

Fergie/Cruyff. Can't for the life of me decide this one... where Cruyff took Barca and turned it on it's heels (we are witnessing the effects to this day), Fergie is the human equivalent of the fscking energizer bunny.

Busby. Nuff Sed.

1.Herera: Invented catenacio and the only inter manager with a champions cup trophy. And Pitka I wouldn't call someone a cheat unless you have evidence, which you don't. The referee and all those accused by your lfc boys have never been found guilty or even tried in a sports or civil court, its all hearsay.

2.Busby

3.Ferguson

4.

5.Mourinho

My notable mentions would have to be Mourinho (for the amazing start to his managerial career), Arrigo Sacchi - one of my fave managers ever. Oh yeah - and Fabio Capello.

Actually a journo Brian Glanville did find evidence that ref's were bribed

Under the draconian managership of the flamboyant Helenio Herrera, the European Cup was won twice, the scudetto four times. In the foyer of Inter’s training ground stands a bust of Angelo Moratti, below it a most effusive eulogy. But when Keith Botsford, my American colleague, and I were investigating what we called The Years of the Golden Fix, it transpired that Inter’s European victories of the 1960s were the fruit of bribery and corruption in which Angelo Moratti played a crucial part in a process implemented by two men also now dead: Dezso Solti, the Hungarian fixer, and the serpentine Italo Allodi. Inter’s secretary, he became general manager of Juventus when we showed them to be guilty of an abortive attempt to “buy” a Portuguese referee.

Three years in a row, Inter made offers to referees in the second legs of European Cup semi-finals to be played at the San Siro and twice it worked, in 1964 and 1965, when they went on to win the final. On the third occasion, in 1966, Gyorgy Vadas, a brave Hungarian official, refused to be bribed. Real Madrid held out and went on to lift the trophy.

In 1964, the sufferers were Borussia Dortmund, who had a key player sent off. In 1965 it was Liverpool, victims of two dreadful decisions by Ortiz de Mendibil, the Spaniard. Botsford and I knew that Vadas refused to be tempted; getting him to talk years later was the problem.

Having flown to Budapest, we at last managed to meet him in the dim cafeteria of Radio Budapest, where everybody involved in Hungarian football, good guys and bad, seemed to be working. Large, good-natured, anxious, he refused to talk; he had plainly suffered enough. Not another international match would he get after that night. It was left to Peter Borenich, a talented, persistent young local journalist, to get him to speak and publish what he said in Only The Ball Has A Skin.

Solti had been with him and his linesman, Vadas said, from morning to night. When they were alone in his hotel room, Solti offered him enough money to buy five Mercedes if he bent the match for Inter, payable in dollars — double if Inter won on a late penalty, five times as much were they to win by a penalty in extra time.

On the morning of the match, Vadas and his linesman were invited to Angelo Moratti’s villa for lunch. He at once gave each a gold watch. During the meal he told Solti to buy them colour television sets and a host of electrical appliances. But Vadas refereed the match impeccably. At half-time, Solti invaded his dressing-room, ranting that he had failed to give three penalties. At 5am the next day, Solti phoned his friend, Gyorgy Honti, secretary of the Hungarian football federation, to tell him that Vadas had cheated Inter out of the match. Back in Budapest, Vadas was faced by an outraged Honti.

Sorry but my stance will never change on Italian football ,as proved by Juventus and Milan recently they are Cheats and I can say that as they were found out ,Herera's legacy will always be tainted as the world knows how he achieved his success,

Tommy Smith did an interview talking about that daylight robbery in 1965 ,and he said and the video evidence proved true that after the game he confronted Ortiz de Mendibil and told him in his face that he cheated and took bribes and his reply was just silence ,Tommy Smith got so upset that he kicked Ortiz and the video evidence showed the kick ,The Anfield Iron (smith) then said he knew Ortiz would not report him,Now tell me why didnt the ref report him to the officials for verbally(calling him a cheat and accusing him of bribery) and physically abusing him after the game Morrati was the biggest cheat in football in 1965 and i will never change my opionion ,I recently watched that match and it unbelievable how clearly he robbed Liverpool ,with them having to score 3 goals ,they were give a ridiculous Indirect freekick which they kicked straight in ,their striker kick the ball out of Tommy Lawrence's (goalkeeper) hands and scores ,its actually rediculous when you see it ,We scored a perfectly good goal which was chalked off ,Ive seen the match and clearly Liverpool were robbed

Yes a journalist and everything they write we take as being the holy truth. Like I said all these things you have posted are basicly hearsay. Also in those many refs were verbally abused a lot of the times by the players and managers.

Also I am pretty sure that video you watched wasn't for lfc tv or an english broadcast right? Hardly going to try and give an unbiased view.

You can believe what you wanted I don't believe a word of it. Now milan and juve were found guilty so there's no doudt there, especially with milan because its the second time they were found guilty. They were relegated in the 1980's for a betting scandal.

But facts are you have absolutely no proof at all except hearsay( which can't be used in a court) to accuse Inter and Herrera.

Helenio Herrera was nicknamed il Mago (the Wizard) and H.H. (from the initials of his name) by Italian sports journalists (who recognized him as one of the finest coaches in Italian football history) because on occasion he would provocatively announce the results of Sunday's games and often his prediction turned out to be correct

if that alone doesnt tell you that he was a cheat along with Morrati then I dont know ,how daft were they in Italy thinking that he was such a great coach because he would predict the exact scores of certain fixtures on match days ,

He was a Cheat along with Morrati ,I will never rate him as they say where theres smoke there fire ;)

Mohamed Ali predicted when he would knock his opponents out and some turned out to be true. Do you consider him a cheat.;)

Pointless discussion in truth. The LFC supporters will believe what they want to believe and we Interisti will believe what we want to believe.

Just like the Germans will believe that goal never crossed the line in 1966.

1. Bill Shankley - The reason Liverpool FC are the most successful British team in history.

2. Bob Paisley - Great man, Great Achievemnts in such a short time, discovering Kenny Dalglish the greatest Liverpool FC player of all time.

3. Kenny Dalglish - Inspiring, if he stayed on after the Hillsborogh tradegy, he would of continued having success with Liverpool. Unfortunately after he left, it was the beginning of Liverpool's fall from being the best team in the land.

None of those even come close to Rinus Michels.

I must admit, never heard of the guy.

You have heard of Barca right? He was the precursor to Cruyff - and Cruyffs mentor. He is most responsible for Barca's greatness today IMHO.

Not to mention inventing "Total Football" and kick starting Ajax Amsterdam's ascent to greatness.

Among many other things.

He may not have won much, but when I think of great coaches, I think of coaches who have revolutionised the game.

Rinus was the revolutionary manager of the last century. Fergie has been building team after winning team for close to a quarter century and that is why he is in my books. Cruyff is the most directly responsible person for Barca's current strength and even Spain's rate of progression over the last two decades. Sir Matt Busby built three great sides, revolutionised the scouting method that is still used by modern clubs and actually helped United avoid the same fate as Il Grande Torino (or is that El, can never remember...) after the Superga Air Disaster.

Having said that - Helenio is one of my personal faves due to his Catennacio and any one of a number of great coaches of Milan from the 80's/90's (Sacchi, Maldini) - with Sacchi being my personal fave of the lot :)
