Hey Guys
Need some help on this question...

There is a friber manhole between my neighbour and my house, every 2 houses in my subburb has manhole for the fibre distribution.
If i was to place and order for a month to month package from an ISP , who will be reponsible for installing the ONT , will it be MFN contractors as the network belogns to MFN, or will the ISP send thier install team ? also if i was to cancel the fibre with this ISP 6 months down the line and go with another ISP . do they retrive the ONT ?

Silly questions, i'm new to fibre.

Regards
CN

The fibre provider owns the ONT.. once installed, it stays there, irrespective of your ISP, even when you move..

I moved in March and tried returning the ONT to Openserve because the house I was living in was due to be demolished. They refused to provide any means to return it, so I just took it with me.

The ONT or CPE is installed by the cable provider in your case Metrofibre. Openserve, Vumatel, Frogfoot will usually outsource installations to various contractors to install the fibre to your property once an ISP has placed an order for a line on your behalf.

I always say this the ONT or the CPE STAYS in the property even if you have moved or cancelled the line. The router supplied by the ISP will either be a free to use router which you return if you cancel or you buy it upfront or you get to keep it after a period of time that you would need to follow up with the ISP.

The ONT and CPE if taken away is useless and will not work for an installation at a new address. I guess technically it could be but they cable providers don't. The ONT and CPE is usually locked so you can't set anything on them.

Very few cable provider like Aeonova360 for example, the Huawei ONT is the router too and offers wifi and switching capabilities. The ONT is still mostly lock down except for the possibility of changing the wifi password and forwarding port.
