"Cape Town - Fuel retailers who run wholesale and retail businesses from the same premises can face fines of up to R1m or prison sentences of up to 10 years."

Why can't we get the government top apply this rule to PSTS (AKA Telkom) providers.

Telkom, SAIX and telkominternet can not share the same premises, staff, etc.
It would go a long way to get the anti-competition of Telkom out of the way.

Let competition rule.

It's simple, telscum makes the rules, ICASA obeys them, government counts there share profits.
 
Perhaps one of the ISPs can lay a complaint with the competition commission.

Methinks if the CC were to ask for documentation proving Telkom and SAIX operate seperately some people will be forced to spend a while in jail for refusing to provide that which does not exist. :p
 
I think a fair figure to make them skrik would be 10% of annual turnover per day that they violate whatever ruling goes against them or where they are not compliant with the regulations....

And consequently, the guavamint would make more in 1 day from fines, than from a whole years worth of profits... :)

The ISP's did, the Competition Commission ruled in their favour, Telkom challenged the ruling in court, and as I recall, that it where it's currently at and has been for a few years already.

How about a fine of R1mil per day back-dated to the introduction of wholesale bandwidth services? :-)

That should make a big enough dent.
 
Good thread! Telkom's operations are problematic as it without a doubt gives preferential treatment to its own assets. I don't have a problem with this, but then we need proper same level competition to Telkom. Not just one operator, but many more...
