I have had ADSL for 2 months now.
The first month everyting worked fine.
Fro a month now I have been having disconnection problems.
Modem just decides to disconnect. All 4 LCD are on and you can not even ping the modem. After calling telkom for 100 times, this problems still persists and the the uneducated support staff are useless. Still I am waiting for the tech personel to come and check out my system and tell me what is going on.

I have a ethernet modem, pluged into the hub.
I have two PC also connected to the hub.
Both these PC uses obtain IP auto.

I was told that you should turn the modem off and wait a while, turn it back on and all should be right. :p sorry does not work. The modem stays out of action and unpingable for hours.
I have however found that if I turn the modem off, reset it manually, turn both machines off, turn the modem back on then it seems to work again.

Does anybody know what the solution to this problem could be.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
At this point I am ready to walk threw telkom with a shotgun and wast them all, but thought that my fellow ADSL users might have a better solution.

Thanks

The first modem I had, sofware was old.
The new one, the version is that of the latest according to telcom.
A friend of mine recons it might be the modem. How can one test the modem to ensure that it complies.

Telkom also told me that I should rather use the modem on one PC and not threw the hub. That does not make any sence as why whould I spend the extra money on getting a ethernet modem (router). Also by doing this I can not have both machines on the net as the network port gets taken up by the modem. This also renders the lan null and void *#$&$^#@

Just out of interest. Last night I had just enouph time to post the origional message before getting disconnected.
Am I the only person that has this problem?
Why is it that it worked fine for a month and then started with this crap? So many questions so little answers

Just some more info. When i get disconnected and try to reconnect, a message appears telling that it is trying to connect via lan to PPPo.... something can't remember the exact message right now.

[:(] I have the same problem, so I phoned Telkom and they gave me the whole story about my modem's software being old. I went and swopped the modem for a "newer" one with the "newer" code on it and the same is still happening, every 24 to 48 hours the modem disconnects itself, and when it reconnects it "hangs".

P.S. I don't use the Telkom software, I configured the modem itself to "dial" my ISP and disconnect after 5 minutes idle, and it reconnects fine for the first 24 hours, and then hangs.

Does anyone have a solution, as telkom don't know what they are talking about.

I a had the same problem worked for the first month and then stoped , and then it worked fine for the last week and all of a sudden it started again now i dont know what to do , i am told its the software issue and from playing around with diffrent types of software, it seems to work more or less fine its couse our lines here are so **** that , Modem manufacutres have to make speshil software for us how redicules is that , thats what D-link tells me .

The way I have it only Altech modems work with Telkom's exchange
Because Telkom informed only Altech about special issues with
their exchange.

Wireless linking Tzaneen
to Cape Town

Does anyone know if there is a tech document from telkom that sais.
We support this and this Modem.
If you have this problem check that.
These things are known issues and these are the work arounds.

Such a document might be a starting point.
