Why are memory prices skyrocketing?

probably mostly exchange rate related i would guess... otherwise, havent heard any news of DRM prices goin up internationally...

Well, I read the e-mail properly now and they say prices are up due to local shortages, anyway, my other supplier (who carries Kingston) says they know of no such thing. South African business mentality at work I guess...

It's going up because of DDR2, that's what I think, the same thing happened to SDRam when DDR came out, until today SDRam is crap expensive in S.A. ;)

All RAM prices were increased because the share holdings in co. like Blue chip increased.

Share holdings, increase the price of RAM? Ummm...no.

The price increases are mainly driven by increased demand from motherboard makers, which saw their shipments grow by 9.9% in August. The DRAMExchange also believes that PC OEMs have begun their Christmas shopping, which should put even more pressure on DRAM prices. DRAMExchange analysts expect that the growth in the motherboard market will last at least through September.

its coz of demand... with core 2 duo out a crap load of people have bought them and ddr2 ram... the ddr ram is going up coz its the same thing as sdram... there's less companies making ddr ram now or... making less to make more ddr2 ram... the stock exchange is also to blame... gees cannt we be as stable as a jihad bomber? any way... ddr is gonna get real pricy in a very short time... its technology mates... the stupid thing is that if any other computer part gets old... the price drops... ram on the other hand goes up...
