Why are there no good android tablets?

One could apply the same logic to laptops after using a macbook pro retina, and say why are there no good Windows laptops? Retina macbooks have been out for a year now and nobody else comes close yet except for GPU performance.

There are a few laptops that have HD resolution displays in a 13 inch or smaller chassis - the Asus Zenbook comes to mind. And there is even the new Toshiba laptop with a better than retina display.

And these things are available here in SA.

Thats the thing - its not that no decent Android tablets exist, its that none of them are available here, and thats mostly because Samsung hasnt made any yet.

You not seen the latest Dell XPS 15 yet? All reviews I found said it to be the MBP equivalent for Windows.
Mine is arriving tomorrow afternoon.

HD is Faaaar from Retina. Full HD is only half the resolution of a 13" retina.

@Mike Smit- Nope I'll do a Google. Sounds good.

Looks good, but I'd have to say 'almost equivalent'. CPUs are the same. The rMBP has a factory overclocked GT650m which is faster than a regular GTX660m. The design of the rMBP looks better. Apple still make the best trackpads. Retina vs Full HD display. I'm still pretty impressed with that Dell. Dell also has that 3 year on-site warranty.

I gave up looking for an Android tablet with everything and got an iPad 4 32GB 4G.
I love Android, but have come to recognise and acknowledge that Apple owns the tablet arena still.

Same here - love Android, not a decent bloody tablet in sight (havent been able to touch and feel Nexus 10 or Sony, but have been able to try most of the others) - also eventually ended up with iPad - it's just a work tool - no widgets, pain in the blimmin bum to get media onto to it, etc

But, it flippin works out of the box - it's smooth, lag free and a pleasure to use.

Yeah I used apple products for quite a while and just got more annoyed with their locked down nature. Sure they work well but I hate jumping through hoops just to get some media on to it.
For instance my wife's iphone has not had a single new song on it in a year and a half because her itunes library was lost and to sync the phone it will first erase her current content...
It just seems a bit crazy that samsung stick to low res screens and there isnt a really good alternative to the ipad.

O/T… There are loads of apps for the Mac or PC that will let you pull the songs off the iPhone. Then you just need to reimport them into itunes. I recently had a similar experience and used Senuti.

I want a reasonably priced 8" Android tab :( Hoping we see something like a 8" IPS Nexus 8

Im an android fan but im getting really annoyed trying to find a good tablet with all the boxes that I need ticked.
I want a 9-10" tablet with a high res screen - no the 1280x800 res of most tablets is not high res.
I also want a tablet with built in 3G, I know I can wifi hotspot my phone etc but in practical terms its not as easy as just using built in 3G.

The nexus 10 is great for resolution but doesnt have the 3G.
The galaxy note 10.1 is great for everything else but doesnt have the resolution.
I know there are fongkong tabs that have "retina" screens but their battery life is terrible and so are most other features on them.

So does anyone know of an android tab that does all of that?
I really dont want to get another ipad.

I'm in the exact same boat. I just can't find an android tablet that I'm willing to spend money on.

Got one (Huawei).... velly 'appy!

Where did you get one from? I have seen these (FHD) on BidorBuy and Kalahari. Autopage advertised them for an incredibly attractive price on their website but there was no other info and no-one answered my questions even to say that the product was actually available.

just went to the launch for the new Sony Xperia Z tablet. It is a beauty and a beast. Its going to be a real success in my books in the tablet market.
