Africans should hang their heads in shame over what was happening in Zimbabwe, Nobel peace laureate Desmond Tutu said in an impassioned statement on Friday.

"We Africans should hang our heads in shame," the Anglican archbishop said in a statement released from Cape Town.

"What an awful blot on our copybook. Do we really care about human rights, do we care that people of flesh and blood, fellow Africans, are being treated like rubbish, almost worse than they were ever treated by rabid racists?"

Look at our vote on the security councel at the UN And the only reason Mbeki started "caring" about whats happening in Zimbabwe is because of the world cup and nothing about poor people suffering.

To be honest I agree with their reasoning (regarding the SC vote - NOT their silence about Zimbabwe).

That statement seems very,very naive.How many countries are better off now that they are under "democratic" control.

I have never been to any african country except for Namibia so I can't say for sure how bad things are north but going by the press & movies they were a lot better off under white rule.

But hey maybe the press and hollywood got it wrong, maybe novies like Hotel Rwanda & blood diamond are exaggerating the situasion but in my opinion they are merely the tip of the iceberg.

At least the whites aren't forcing law and order on them anymore,what u think tibby?

Off all the countries in Africa which "suffered" under colonialism only one, and only one, not a single one more, is equal to what it was under colonialism.
