Coloureds are a wide base. Foundation being Cape Malay (Malays). Take the indigenous peoples which /cough, excludes the traditional Bantu ethnic groups, add the Malays (Austronesian peoples) and other Asian groups and you have the coloureds, add interracial to this and you still have coloureds. We have many coloured ethnic groups, and there are many known interracial ethnic groups which are still considered to be coloured. All which was determined by some silly Apartheid test which also classed some European and other darker-skinned grouped people as coloureds.

Yes, there was rape, yes, there were interracial relationships, and yes, there were coloureds.

Some might say we have our very own Mexicans, but this isn’t Mexico or South America, neither do we have Native Americans. All who would have been coloureds here.

The Indians are still Indians, them having their Malay 'cousins' as to speak. Chinese are still Chinese, non-coloured Asians that is.

Racial assimilation is rarely as straightforward as people like to think. Nor is it something that happens overnight except with conquest involving extermination of local male populations and the creation of harems..... which is something the Bantu tribes did funny enough but not the whites.

, in anthropology and sociology, the process whereby individuals or groups of differing ethnic heritage are absorbed into the dominant culture of a society."

Because the whites will not lower their standards. Nor will they assimilate with a culture of violence, raping babies or talking with ancestors.​

People think of dominant as meaning force but it can also just mean largest or most common.

Everyone formed new identities in a way. Afrikaners also have a mixed background.

It seems to me at least that coloureds are embracing their new identity. Except for a few more middle class ones that seems to be converting to English.

From the establishment of human migration and diaspora, we have become African and Southern African, and South African by identity.

The way these robust speeches are ushered on is pushing another diaspora...

Well diaspora is a new word for me, but if people take on a new identity and assimilate in a way is it still diaspora?
