Why do local smartphone manufacturers still make smartphones in 2016 with outdated specs and selling them at the same price as outdated international brands from 2014/2015 that still have better specs than them?

Why can't they do what India is doing when it comes to making decent phones and selling them at competitive affordable prices?

Corporate greed, doesnt give a crap about the customer.

I had a nice little proline windows tablet that never gave problems, they make phones here to I think.

So these companies phones are assembled here in SA from parts received from China and not imported whole and rebranded (even branded before they are imported whole)?

I'm not 100% sure. Maybe some are and others aren't, but whichever it is, it doesn't mean they can sell us outdated devices with poor built quality and expect us to buy from them.

I highly doubt any of those are assembled here. It's re-branded crap that they can't sell elsewhere...

There is absolutely no market for a home-grown decent specced smartphone in SA, you will save nothing as all the bits will still be imported, the labour costs will be higher and that's if you can even find the skilled workers.

Can't they at least re-brand decent crap?

Because Hlaudi is not the minister of telecomms and hasn't yet introduced a 90% local smartphone policy?
