Why can't we make phone calls from Tablets (3G enabled)

You may say I have been living under a rock--I just discovered that none of the Tablets (Apple or even Samsung Galaxy tabs), you can make phone calls even though they have 3G SIM cards for data transfer. Why is this so; what a shlep! Easily connect the devise to a Bluetooth ear-piece, but no it can't I was told.

So which tablets can we have phone, data and portability of tablet in one?

you can root the HTC Flyer to enable it to make calls

You can also enable the iPad 1 to make phone calls. I've done it, works very well. As OMB said, root the HTC flyer and you can make calls from it aswell.

just another soft-phone app like skype, I think Smiley is looking for the reason as to why a tab can't be used like a normal cellphone

My Huawei IDEOS S7 Slim CAN make calls. Some tablets only support 3G for data & NOT 2G for voice...

yup, the 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab does make cellphone calls... daugter has one, given it to her as replacement for old laptop + old cellphone.
you don't actually use it like a brick growing out your ear.... hold it infront of you like on the Galaxy tab promo video, like doing video call. Normal cell call just uses speaker to hear the other side.
Can use bluetooth headset if u prefer private calls

For other android devices there is also the option of using SIPdroid. I just installed it on my tablet (so I can make cheaper calls), and its working 100`s.

My guess its because Stevie realized that if an iPad could do everything the iPhone could do, a lot of people would only want an iPad. This way, he gets to sell them both.
