Why Capitec really launched a cellular service provider

Capitec launched a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) because it could provide the bank with a wealth of data about consumers and ensure it could compete against the technology companies entering financial services.

This is according to author TJ Strydom in his latest book, Capitec: Stalking Giants, who wrote that Capitec CEO Gerrie Fourie told him this in an interview.

The future is all about data gathering and trying to keep as many services as possible under one umbrella. Their deals aren't even that attractive any more. A Cell C LTE bundle can be extended indefinitely. Afrihost gives you 1GB free every month so no reason to become a slave.

Not anymore.

They actually still do it you didn't move to the new Airmobile.
Think he's thinking of a 3GB deal or something that was available for a while. For the 1GB you just have to download the app to claim it.

To copy FNB obviously. They weren't even original with the name...

Ported my partner to Capitec Connect. When we were still having load shedding. He is a bit of a Facebook addict so wh n the fibre was off he would buy constantly run out of data. He is a Capitec customer already too so figured porting him to them is the thing to do. A bit cheaper and buying bundles on their app is easy. He is very happy with them.
