Why do I get this?

I've had something similar before, not exactly the same though. What happened was when shutting down to hibernate (Vista) I had a whole bunch of USB devices plugged in. I would then remove the devices, but when powering on, I'd get some form of blue screen. I never had the problem again since I started to remove all devices BEFORE hibernating.

Was wierd but figured it had something to do with how hibernating works (saving memory content to disk and restoring this content when powering on later) and perhaps it was trying to verify devices and address's that were supposed to be there but all of a sudden wasn't. Anyway, I thought sharing this may help :D
 
It's most likely not shutting down properly, either because something's wrong or someone if forcing it to turn off, at least you should hope that's it because otherwise there's a chance something is wrong with the hard drive or it's marked as "dirty" and the mark isn't always being removed even with a proper shutdown.
 
Okay I did switched it off a few times. Was in a hurry and it take forever to shut down these days. Time for a format I think...
 
standby - the thing is still on, but in a low power state
hibernate - ram contents dumped to hdd and machine gets powered off.

the difference is, ins tandby, the device still uses power, just a lot less. if the battery runs out while this happens, then it is the same as forcefully switching the machine off while in windows, ergo the chkdsk that comes up afterwards.
 
If you're in a hurry you can set your PC to shut down properly by pressing the power button.

Could even be a default in Windows from 2000 onwards. :p
 
Okay, the next damn problem. For a few times now when I bring the lappy out of standby, the hdd light goes on, and off again, and the same time the laptop fan starts at full speed, and stays like that, it doesn't dim, and windows doesn't start either. Basically its a dead machine with the fan running.

ps, looks like the lappy is saying bye bye?
