Why do some countries have no news ?

Well, the papers in those countries you mentioned don't have front page news about South Africa, but they certainly do about thier own respective countries.

And yes, I'm sure they have articles about the USA, China etc. - why?

Because they are the world super powers. What happens in these countries can directly impact on the lives of people worldwide.

What happens in South Africa has little to no impact on the majority of the world.

Newspapers grab stories that sell papers, wherever you are. Local papers grab whatever local news is guaranteed to sell.
Only the big stories make international news.

FWIW, I believe that the World Cup *is* something that has already and will continue to raise SA's news profile. I'm just not sure of the relevance of two old corporate stories.

You do like to take things out of context don't you.

So I provided an example, or two, of how, even if he felt we are just stuck away on the tip of Africa, many countries in the world regard us as having an important role to fulfil in the world economy. I used two "recent", in big business terms, deals involving major countries investing in ours.... I also mentioned the importance of our raw materials and minerals but, true to form, you did choose to ignore this.

Your short sightedness also states that this has very little impact on the man on the street. How wrong you are there too! We all feel the spin off effects of deals such as these! Never mind the actual man in the street who may get employed as a result of these deals.

I don't give a flying monkeys about how important the UK is - it doesn't make me personally any more important, I'm just a citizen in a country of 60+ million people!

See, this is the South African mindset which really makes me laugh - the fact that you consider yourselves and South Africa as being so important. Arrogance and attitude deluxe.

Come over here, spend some time and get yourself cut down to size - not in a negative way, but in a really positive way.

So what makes the UK so important anyway?
If you go to Korea, they consider their news most important,
even if it's about some child genius playing Chopin better than any adult.

Do you think they care what happens in the UK?

If anything serious issues involving the United States are probably relevant to most countries. After that - no-one really cares about international news, and local news becomes relevant.

The UK is important for it's services and banking sector. London is considered one of the worlds financial capitals, second only to New York.

In modern times, that's about it. The empire has long since vanished - if it wasn't for the historical impact the empire had and the current situation of London, the UK wouldn't be important, but it is - and so what?
