Reading the papers it's always the same places that have news - USA, Zim, Israel, India, SA, UK, China etc

When last was there a front page article about

Switzerland
Iceland
Austria
Peru
Norway
Tanzania
Kuwait ( yes, I know about that episode..)

Even Japan and Germany have little of front page value.

No major crimes, sex scandals, air crashes, disasters, riots, bent politicians, wars...

Does nothing news-worthy ever happen there and if not, why ?

They are of little importance, mainly.
Who really cares if some Norwegian widower is caught fondling a teenager in a drive-in?

^ and Pakistan? Why do we always hear about some bomb blast in Pakistan. Who cares about that crappy country? Honestly, what importance do they offer the world?

Does it really? Or does it just affect India and the region?

If having some nukes gives you so much street cred around the world, no wonder every rogue regime wants to get some!

If pakistan fight with india then china and russia(who are right next door) step in and we have ourselves a nice continental war.I swear the next major conflict will start in India/Pakistan.

Because if you got nukes you're pretty much free to do what you please anywhere in the world. Exactly why rogue regime wants them

why do you want to hear about our country vespax what importance do we offer the world?

Because I live here. ;)

I don't think they hate each other that much. They just like to skirmish.

Journalists talk about something called newsworthiness, which basically boils down to "Does it affect me (my readers)?" [more here and here]

So, events in our neighbour Zimbabwe, clearly affect us. Events in the world's largest economies (US, UK, China, India), affect us. And events which have global repercussions (Israel, Pakistan) affect us.

You summed up the whole thread in couple of lines:D

Thanks, journalism school paid off at last. :)

And to be clear, I have never met an editor who chose which stories to write/publish by looking at that country's religiosity.

Yes thats correct; but it is related, because religiosity corresponds to crime, and crime corresponds to news.

No - you're trying to force a correlation where there isn't one. Your theory doesn't account for Zimababwe. Your very subjective assessment of "little news" doesn't account for the massive differences in coverage received by Germany and Poland, for eg.

Interesting point you have there. I was thinking also, you never hear anything coming from those countries....

You know what? I bet there is some Icelander on some Icelandic forum right now wondering why he never hears about South Africa. Infact he may even think Africa is a country.

phenom, you're really massaging the facts to try to make your point.

According to the scale you provided, the UK and Slovakia have a similar degree of religiosity - do you believe we have similar amounts of coverage of those two countries?

What about the Vatican? :D Crime there must be unbelievable, according to your theory, and yet we never hear of them (except when they revise the seven deadly sins as they did this week.)

Like most americans do.
Dumbasses.

C'mon? You really think that we get similar amounts of coverage of Britain and Slovakia? France and the Czech Republic?
