So you think Apple will build a service center from scratch? The online store could drop ship from the factories, so no distribution center required, but it would make sense to have a service center in Jo'burg.

Their stores, per square foot, are some of the most profitable retail stores in the world so I figure they'd build at least a flagship store in the big cities which could easily house a service centre. Here in PE all repair work has to be sent via courier up to core which is a real time waster - that puts off a lot of people that I've spoken to.

But there are basically few Apple Stores outside of the US...they are hard to find in the UK even. Remember the bloke who said he could walk the 400km to the nearest Apple store before they shipped his imac that was in for repair back to him.
I'm not sure that building loads of Apple stores outside the US is part of the business plan. I could be wrong but i think all of the stores in Australia are independents.

You can buy iTunes vouchers from iPodWorld.co.za and then you'll be able to buy from the ITMS. However ITMS music is only 192Kbit and it's DRM'ed
so I personally think it's easier to import that CD from any one of a dozen or so cheap insured airmail American EBay shops for about 35% less than what Amazon charges.

How easy is it to circumvent that drm.
It would be nice if they upped the bitrate to 192kbit but I'm not all that sure I could tell the difference from the 128 they currently use.
The market is not big enough. Apple does not operate in many european countries either.

Apple must sign licensing and money sharing agreements with the local record distributors in each country they wish to do business in.
