The Billion ADSL +voip router supplied by Telkom does not support codec 723. Now we cant call countries that only support termination with this codec.

I also use ATA ( Analogue telephoen Adapter ) but even that does not give correct call connection through Billion

Is there a way around this ?

Try using G.726, G.723 was replaced by G.726.

Where are you routing calls to though? G.723 is not used all that often.

There are several African countries including Burundi that only support G723.

Its more like your VOIP providor doesnt support translation to the codec you are using. Get yourself a better providor.

No not the case at all. I do VoiP from various sites and the Billion 800VGT is the problem at this site.

But who is your VOIP providor ? Yes your Billion might not support G723 however your VOIP providor should be transcoding for you from your negotiated codec to their endpoints codec format.

The 800VGT does not support the G723 VoIP codec. The G723 codec is not implemented on the Billion routers.

What I thought, his VOIP providor should be transcoding from the codec his Billion is using to the endpoints codec requirement.

If his VOIP providor is the endpoint and only supports G723 then he needs to get another device or another providor, but 99% of voip providors will support multiple codecs and transcode for you.

Who is your provider? If you have a good provider then they will have auto codec negotiation between your edge device and their network, their softswitch (network) will in turn auto negotiate the correct codec with the destination which was dialed...

If you do not wish to change to another provider I suggest change the edge device.
