Why does Google Play services need access to my microphone?

When making or receiving phone calls on my Nokia 8 I get an error message
"Google Play services error
Phone is having trouble with Google Play services. Please try again"

When I tap on the error message I get

"This app won't work properly unless you allow Google Play services' request to access the following:
- Microphone
- Body sensors
To continue, open settings, then Permissions, and allow all listed items"

I then have the option to "Open Settings" or "Cancel"

(I think it also asks for camera access for QR codes)
